"Karchess, don't say such selfish things... If our relationship's made known, we'll both be ruined."
―Yufina Marlon[src]

Yufina Marlon was the Queen of the Kingdom of Marlon and one of Sateriasis Venomania's many victims. After marrying Prince Martius and becoming Queen, she had an affair with her favored retainer, Karchess Crim, leaving her treasured keepsake with the Count while journeying to the Beelzenian Empire. While visiting Asmodean, the queen was enchanted and abducted by Duke Venomania, becoming the eighth member of his harem.

History

Early Life

Yufina was born in EC 110 within the Marlon Royal Family, the only child of the King and Queen of Marlon. At some point, the princess received a Golden Key pendant as a keepsake from her mother, wearing the important jewelry on her person at all times. Yufina was later betrothed to Prince Martius of Beelzenia to forge a political alliance between the two nations for the nation's planned conquest of the neighboring Lioness. As the couple prepared their wedding, the Five Dukes agreed to help arrange it and two were married in a lavish ceremony.

During the period, Yufina became acquainted with his siblings Janus, Febria, Aprilis, and Maylis; upon seeing the five together, the princess doubted the slender Maylis was actually related to her obese siblings. When her father suddenly died sometime after, Martius ascended the throne as King while Yufina became his Queen. Over time, Yufina became dissatisfied with her husband. At some point, she met Count Karchess Crim and the man became her favorite retainer; falling in love with the young noble, the two entered an affair, regularly meeting in secret to hug, kiss, and talk with one another in private.[1]

Homecoming

"It's all right, my stay in Beelzenia won't be too long. It's for my husband's homecoming, not politics."
―Yufina to Karchess[src]

In March of EC 136, Yufina agreed to join her husband at his homecoming to Beelzenia, learning they'd stay in the capital of Rukolbeni for a few days before touring the country and greeting the Five Dukes for three weeks. Traveling to the port town of Jamet the day before their departure, the young Queen left Martius and secretly met with Karchess again and exchanged the usual intimacies. Realizing the risk of their affair, she reluctantly suggested they don't ever meet again. When Karchess continued to pry about why, Yufina stated she hadn't returned already and began to leave when the count restrained her, insisting they hadn't finished talking.

After explaining her husband would get suspicious if she took any longer, Karchess noted they'd be unable to see each other for a while once she left. As the man pleaded for her to stay a little longer, the Queen chastised him for being selfish, reminding him both their lives would be ruined if their relationship was discovered. Hearing him admit he knew that but still wanted to be with her, Yufina was touched and gave him her key pendant, telling him of its importance and to keep it until she returned.

As the Queen told him to think of it as her, the count expressed his anger with the gift and she questioned his issue with accepting it. She then insisted she wouldn't be gone too long since it was for her husband's homecoming and not political matters, promising to see him as soon as she returned. Seeing him calm down, Yufina told the "Count" she'd be leaving and he swiftly departed, waving her goodbye. Returning to her husband, Yufina departed with Martius on their ship the very next day.

After arriving in Beelzenia two days later, the couple and their entourage took a carriage and arrived in Rukolbeni over a week later. Once they entered the imperial palace's throne room, the uncomfortable Yufina silently watched while Martius greeted and praised Janus. Once the other siblings arrived, Maylis immediately greeted her and the Queen thought how all the "pig" siblings had arrived, mentally musing that everything gifted to them from their territories must've been delicious food.

Maylis then clung to Yufina's arm and insisted she give her a tour of the palace. Rejecting, the confused Queen pointed out they were in the middle of a meeting and the princess countered that they didn't need to stay with the "pig conference". Shocked she called them pigs aloud, Yufina looked to her husband and he and Janus agreed she could go, explaining they would just be sharing stories as siblings. After the crown prince told her to look after Maylis and the princess insisted they leave again, Yufina considered it before deciding to take the woman's obvious favor.

After they left, Yufina thanked the princess for apparently noticing her discomfort during the audience. Maylis then went straight up to her face and pointed out she didn't look happy with her brother and Yuina tried explaining she didn't hate him. Told not to just say that aloud, the princess mused arranged marriages were womens' lot in life and that she too would probably be married off. Yufina then hesitantly asked if she liked anyone, imagining Karchess awaiting her return.

Maylis fervently denied it, insisting she wasn't really popular either way. Surprised the ridiculously attractive princess said that, Yufina watched while Baron Toy Conchita approached Maylis and discussed a matter with her. Hearing them talk about massacres and madness in Asmodean, the confused Queen remained silent until Conchita left. When Maylis inquired about her future plans in Beelzenia, Yufina shared her impressions about her and Martius' stay.

After confirming they'd also be visiting Asmodean since it was the Venomania Duke's territory, Yufina listened to the princess advise she make her stay in Asmodean as brief as possible. Once she explained the area would likely be dangerous, Yufina agreed to discuss the matter with the Marlon King. Maylis then questioned where they should go and the Queen allowed the playful princess to show her around the imperial palace.[2]

Venomania Event

While being escorted by Marquis Donald through Asmodean, Yufina's entourage was attacked by Duke Sateriasis Venomania and the Queen was subsequently abducted. Enchanted by Sateriasis' gaze, she followed him back to his mansion and joined his harem, living with the rest of the concubines in the basement.[3]

A New Marlon

When her disguised lover successfully stabbed Venomania in EC 137, she broke free of the Duke's spell and fled with Karchess.[4] Hunted by both Marlon and Beelzenia, the two eloped and went into hiding. Plotting to overthrow Martius' reign and reestablish her bloodline as the rulers of Marlon, Yufina backed her new husband when he established a new, "legitimate" Marlon country, attracting the support of the surrounding nobles. Two years after Venomania's demise, the new Marlon declared war on Martius' government and their coup eventually succeeded.[5] At some point, Yufina and Karchess sired children.[6]

Legacy

Following their deaths, Yufina and Karchess' lineage continued to rule over Marlon for centuries, eventually conquering Lioness and gaining complete hegemony over the entire Marlon Island. The Golden Key Yufina carried continued to be kept in the royal family's possession for several centuries, with tales of Karchess' triumph over Duke Venomania to save his beloved passed down to future generations since that time.[7]

Personality and Traits

Yufina was a proper but affectionate woman. Self-conscious of the political world she inhabited, the young royal acted prim and befitting of her status. Well grounded and mature, she had the sense to keep her public image unsullied and be cautious about any potential threats. Despite this, she wasn't emotionless, A proud patriot of her nation, Yufina felt sorrow that her country's history would've ended within her generation, though accepting the political situation. She similarly considered Martius and his siblings pigs, save for Maylis, though careful never to share her description of them out loud.

In the same vein, she had a need for affection, unsatisfied with her political marriage to Martius and taking comfort in her intimate relationship with Karchess. While considering Martius rather kind and gentle, she also recognized him as weak and largely uninspiring as a ruler. She was likewise dissatisfied that he wouldn't even pleasure her. Though not especially fond of him, Yufina did not hate her Beelzenian husband either. She noticed his good nature and respectful conduct to assure he never brought her physical harm.

In contrast, Yufina was quite attracted to Karchess, finding his assertive yet childish demeanor to be cute, and treated him as her favorite vassal in the royal court. After entering an affair with the Count, she was reluctant to ever leave him though understanding they couldn't jeopardy their political positions for a forbidden love and even considered ending the relationship. She also greatly valued the golden key as a memento from her mother, considering it an extension of herself and rarely allowing it to leave her possession.[8]

Skills and Abilities

As a member of the Marlon Royal Family, Yufina had a great deal of political clout among her constituents and was highly favored by Marlon's nobility. She also a possessed some political tact and a proper manner for interacting with fellow aristocrats and royals. However, the Queen lacked any combat training and was therefore useless in a fight, relying heavily on guards to protect her.[9]
