- "If it turns into a way to kill time, that's no problem."
- ―Kiril Clockworker
Kiril Chirclatia, later known as Kiril Clockworker and regarded as the Sorcerer of Time and the Eternal Sorcerer, was a powerful mage and the brother-in-law of Pale Clockworker. Awakening from Sin in the wake of the Levianta Catastrophe, the immortal accepted a quest from Held to collect the vessels of sin on a whim. He later became involved in numerous incidents and conflicts caused by the sin vessels over the centuries. He was one of Levia and Behemo's reincarnations.
History[]
Early Life[]
- "My brother told me…that we were ‘sold by our parents’. That we both had a special power, so we were bought for that ability by the temple."
- ―Kiril regarding his past
Kiril was born on January 30, BT 007 in the Magic Kingdom Levianta, being the much younger brother of Horus Chirclatia. After their parents discovered they were both inheritors of Held, the two brothers were sold to Lighwatch Temple, which was seeking out said inheritors.
Though still a child, Kiril honed his skills and became a considerable sorcerer, becoming the strongest priest in the temple after his brother's death in the first Project 'Ma'. During his youth, he followed the events concerning Project 'Ma' with Eve Moonlit and the 'Ma' candidate Adam Zvezda on television. When one of the famed heads of Apocalypse, Seth Salmhofer, was arrested, the young Kiril calmly kept watch over him and spoke with him while he was imprisoned in the Lighwatch Temple. He was therefore present when the temple's head, Yegor Asayev, approached Seth to gloat about how he had betrayed Apocalypse and been "divinely pardoned" for his crimes.
While he listened to their conversation, Kiril came to understand that, while Seth was indeed evil, so too was Yegor. With some parting words between him and Seth about how he would consider leaving the temple, Kiril left the room. Later on, Kiril joined his fellow priests in saying a prayer over the apparently-executed Seth's casket, being the only one to notice Yegor smiling as he did. As Kiril later sorted Horus' things, he discovered his journal and learned that the Temple intended for him to be the candidate for the first Project before Horus took his place to protect him.
The Delinquent Priest[]
- "…I have had my suspicions, ever since I was a child. I suppose the catalyst for that was what happened to my brother. Horus was taken to the castle by the previous head priest…and then never came back."
- ―Kiril on his reason for leaving
During his work as a priest, Kiril treated and cured various HERs, among them the daughter of a craftsman family Elluka Clockworker. Over time, Kiril began doubting the morality of the Temple, especially after learning that Yegor was previously part of Apocalypse. Also growing tired of his rigid life as a priest, Kiril left the temple, taking on the role of a drunkard and delinquent so as not to be sought out by the priests and asked to return. It was then made out that Kiril was expelled from the temple for misconduct.
Wandering around time for a time, Kiril ran into Elluka again and was accepted into their home by her and her brother Pale; eventually, he and Elluka entered a relationship and became engaged. During this time, he began helping Elluka with her work, allowing the two as a team to handle repair jobs for magical devices. When rumors began sprouting that the mage had met with the god Held residing in Elphegort, he made it clear to his future family he had never even left Levianta during his entire life.
Project 'Ma'[]
Later on, when Pale entered the seventh iteration of Project 'Ma', Kiril entered alongside him in order to protect him. He thus joined him and the other candidates, Gammon Li and Nyoze Eights, in Alicegrad's reception hall with the Project's head Bruno Loop Octopus, arriving late and drunk to keep up the delinquent ruse. Kiril then started living in the castle as per Bruno's orders, drinking heavily and littering as he wandered around. Later on, he gathered with the other three candidates and had his magic ability measured by the Egg device, scoring the highest. Following Gammon and Nyoze's suspicious deaths, Kiril met with Bruno, suggesting that they pause the Project. Met with Bruno's refusal, they discussed him past before he offered to step down and allow Pale to become King. Bruno then insisted he push through, revealing he had the highest magical measurement score among the four candidates. Annoyed, Kiril reluctantly agreed to continue the Project.
After their conversation, Kiril visited Elluka for the first time in about a year, sharing with her that the final selection would be soon and that either he or Pale would be unable to return home. Exchanging heartfelt goodbyes, Kiril left for the temple. When the final selection came, Kiril joined Pale inside the Levia-Behemo temple, where illusions of Nyoze and Gammon suddenly appeared. Meta then spoke over loudspeaker, compelling them to fight each other to the death, with the only one remaining becoming King. Rejecting it, Kiril spoke with Pale, who pretended to surrender. As Meta revealed that the one who didn't become King would be executed, the two brothers-in-law fretted over the decision; Kiirl then embraced Pale and vowed to protect him before Pale stabbed him in the back, killing him.
Reawakened with a New Task at Hand[]
After the twin gods Levia and Behemo incarnated in Kiril Chirclatia's body and Behemo became the consciousness for the new reincarnation, "Kiril" awoke from Sin in the Magic Kingdom Levianta in EC 013. Believing himself to be the real Kiril, he recalled his beloved Elluka Clockworker using the forbidden ark and Clockwork Secret Art to resurrect him, freeing the dragon Levia-Behemo and destroying the Magic Kingdom, Kiril left the Leviantan wasteland and vanished from the public eye. He took on the surname "Clockworker" in memory of his engagement to Elluka.
Remembering him to be his old friend, Kiril visited the god Held and told him about his murder, resurrection, and what transpired during the catastrophe. The earth god related events that had occurred in his forest regarding Eve Moonlit and Adam Zvezda, who had been secretly living in a cottage nearby. He explained they had been raising Hänsel and Gretel after Adam killed their father, Project 'Ma' candidate Seth Salmhofer; Adam and Eve abandoned the twins in the forest due to the famine caused by the Levianta Catastrophe before they returned and killed their false parents.
Afterwards, the twins had split Adam's Original Sin into seven vessels of sin that were scattered across the world. Held tasked Kiril with collecting the demon-possessed objects before they caused calamities for humans. Feeling bored and partially guilty for the situation, Kiril agreed.
Venomania Event[]
- "Our foe is a monster who has killed many people. And we haven’t even been able to figure out how she does it. Surely even you must understand that if we were to slip up it would be dangerous for us."
- ―Kiril to Yufina
Although not knowing what form the vessels of sin took, Kiril nonetheless began searching for the vessels in order to limit the number of HERs. During his quest, Kiril traveled throughout Evillious, giving aid to others in order to form relationships with collaborators and gain leads on the vessels of sin.
In EC 126, while visiting Marquis Ferdinand in the town of Mystica in Asmodean, Kiril encountered a young Sateriasis Octo, who related to his how he dreamt that a drought would come upon the town. Intrigued by the boy's apparent magical power, he believed Sateriasis' story and left immediately. Acquiring a Ziz Tiama, he returned to Mystica several months later with the octopus, faced with the foretold drought. The sorcerer then sacrificed the ziz tiama at a nearby mountain range, conjuring a rainstorm that lasted for days. Kiril left the town soon after.
In EC 132, he helped quell a rebellion in Retasan fortress, earning the gratitude of the Beelzenian Empire and Princess Aprilis Beelzenia. Around EC 136, Elluka gained information that King Karchess Marlon possessed a vessel of sin; by the time he arrived in Marlon, however, Karchess had gone missing.
Later, Kiril was brought by Queen Maylis Marlon into the Beelzenian Imperial Family's investigation concerning the disappearances of men throughout Asmodean, their youngest sibling Fabian Beelzenia also being among the missing men. Traveling to Asmodean himself, Kiril attempted to visit the mansion of Cherubim Glassred, another disappeared man, only to be turned down at the entrance by one of the servants.
Hearing the servant complain about another previous visitor, Kiril learned from him that the Marlon noble Yufina Crim had also visited two days prior, and that she was staying in Lasaland. He later met with Yufina where he was staying at. As Yufina complained about how the imperial siblings were acting slowly despite Gumina Venomania obviously being the culprit, Kiril cautioned her that Gumina appeared to be a powerful woman akin to a monster.
Soon after, Kiril asked Yufina about Karchess' vessel of sin, he was met with confusion from her. However, the conversation shifted to Yufina's past, which she revealed a Golden Key pendant given by her mother. As he asked to borrow it, explaining it could defeat Gumina's demonic power, Yufina refused. Kiril then said he would be at an inn nearby in case Yufina changed her mind, leaving the room soon after.
The following day, Kiril visited the mansion of Gumina, although turned down by her under the pretense of still recovering from her family's massacre. Soon after, Yufina killed Gumina with the Golden Key. Kiril then ended up assisting with the aftermath of the incident, also failing to find the Venom Sword. Deducing the fugitive Yufina would be in Elphegort, as it was situated between Marlon and Beelzenia, the sorcerer traveled to its capital, Aceid, and indulged himself at the Werra bar in its Southern District.
After reflecting on his recent failures, Kiril paid for his drinks and left the tavern. Failing to find Yufina, Kiril continued to assist the Empire in solving the case with Venomania. During his investigation, she learned that King Karchess, Prince Fabian, and Sateriasis Octo had sired Venomania's children and pursued them. Learning that Karchess had fled Beelzenia along with Yufina and his son, Kiril was shocked when he discovered "him" at a brothel in Lasaland.
Kiril met with him soon after and noticed that he shared Adam Zvezda's appearance, although not sensing any Demon of Sin within him. After witnessing "Karchess" flee to Calgaround, Kiril left. While investigating Fabian, he learned about the imperial family's cover up of his newborn daughter and Fabian giving up his child to Baron Tae Conchita and his wife.
Afterward, he pursued Sateriasis and, learning he started a new life in the Eastern region of Bolganio, pursued him there. Meeting with Sateriasis again in EC 136, Kiril learned more about what had transpired during the incident and how Sateriasis was being pursued by the mage P.L., so she could steal his body and its unique prophetic dream power. Kiril offered to swap bodies with the man, explaining that it would deprive P.L. of her reason for pursuing him and let Sateriasis live a normal life. Sateriasis accepted and Kiril performed the swap. After seeing Sateriasis reconnect with his confused child, the sorcerer found no signs of the baby having HER and left.
In EC 138, Kiril met with Cherubim Glassred and, mistaken for Sateriasis, decided not to explain the situation and go along with the act. During their conversation, Kiril learned what had happened to Cherubim after the incident and convinced him to explain his connection to Duke Venomania as Gumila. Afterwards, Kiril witnessed his servant, Alfonso Shields, questioned Cherubim about whether the former's attempt to destroy his engagement with the real Gumina was because he loved Gumila. Hearing no answer, Kiril left.
Soon after, he learned that Yufina had started a movement with Karchess to overthrow Marlon and establish a "legitimate" Marlon government instead. He wrote an account of what he had learned in the past two years and his plans to leave Elphegort in pursuit of Yufina. Sometime after failing to acquire the Golden Key from the Marlon Royal Family, Kiril reported everything he had learned to Held. Hearing about a Count Karchess married to the lord of Calgaround in later years, the mage assumed he was the former prostitute that had fled years prior.
Disappearance of Marlon[]
- "No, we must hurry! Because this time, no matter what it takes—we're going to get our hands on the Vessel of Deadly Sin!"
- ―Kiril investigating Carlos Marlon
Over the years, the Emperor appealed several times for Kiril to serve the imperial family, but he had never accepted. In EC 324, Kiril received the alleged Twin Blades of Levianta from the Levin Church in the Lucifenia region of Beelzenia, although the swords he was given turned out to be fake. He nonetheless took the blades to an inn in Rolled and kept them by his side; having had a prophetic dream of the "Phantom Thief Platonic" attempting to steal the blades by bribing the innkeeper so he could put a sleeping drug in his tea, Kiril easily evaded the trick and that night only pretended to sleep.
Once Platonic had entered his room and tried to take the swords, Kiril grabbed him by the arm and took him by surprise, quickly revealing how he'd learned of his theft beforehand. Noting Platonic's resemblance to Adam Moonlit, he interrogated Platonic on his heritage and determined that she was a descendant of Karchess Marlon. Then, after failing to learn who his employer was, Kiril revealed how the twin blades were a fake and his plans to make use of Platonic's talents.
With Platonic in tow, Kiril forced the thief to work for him and kept him magically bound to prevent him escape. He additionally tried several times to teach him simple spells, but the training failed each time. The mage decided to bring up the recent events with Held and, after placing a capture spell on the thief, left him in their residence en route to Held's Forest.
Kiril met with the tree and explained what had happened with the Twin Blades, complaining bitterly about his failures thus far. Held seemed unconcerned with his problems, though he warned him that the Magic Kingdom had been rebuilt, despite Kiril's lack of concern about the matter. They then ended up discussing the matter of his "hired" servant, Kiril noting his inability to learn magic and his unexplained resemblance to both Karchess and Adam. Held again brushed off his concerns as a coincidence. They continued to talk until Kiril, upon a comment from Held, realized he hadn't left Platonic any food and ran back to rectify the issue.
In July of EC 325, while staying in Lucifenia, Kiril and Platonic were captured and brought to the Beelzenian capital of Rucolebeni to have an audience with Empress Juno Beelzenia. Although vexed by his treatment, Kiril nonetheless explained to Empress Juno why he had Platonic in his employ, brushing off Juno's protestations that he should have turned Platonic in to the proper authorities after capture. He additionally claimed to wanting to keep Platonic around because of how "cute" he looked. Empress Juno then revealed the reason he'd had Kiril brought to him: to investigate Carlos Marlon's apostasy and supposed cannibalism.
Once again suspecting the involvement of a vessel of sin, Kiril agreed to help investigate; seeing Platonic's use, Kiril bartered for his exoneration in exchange for aiding his investigation. In August, they reached the city of Re Tasan and were brought to its mayor, who explained how governance over the Marlon region had broken down. They were then brought to an undead soldier that had been captured and housed in their jail. Platonic confirmed it was the same kind of creature that attacked him, leading Kiril to realize that he had infiltrated the Marlon Mansion before.
Convincing the mayor to open the cell up, Kiril used a spell to commune with the undead monster. He revealed himself as the Marlon Family's chamberlain, Ron Grapple, explaining how a demon possessing a red wine glass was the cause of Carlos' reanimated army. After begging Kiril to help save Carlos and his son by taking the glass, Ron completely fell apart. Afterwards, the sorcerer determined they needed to investigate Carlos' mansion. As Platonic tried to play ignorant about the glass, Kiril realized Platonic had likely gone to the mansion to steal it and began to suspect his mysterious client was someone else seeking the vessels of sin. He resolved to go to the mansion with Platonic, threatening him into compliance when he protested.
Arriving at Gasto by August, the pair entered the tavern and met the minstrel Xenos Jaakko, learning from him that the corpse soldiers had completely disappeared and that the mansion appeared empty. As Xenos then started to sing to them, the two ignored him and left the bar, discussing the odd information he shared. Kiril then resolved to go to the mansion immediately, forcing the tired Platonic along.
Reaching the estate grounds, Kiril unlocked the gate with a spell and the two entered to find the mansion and grounds seemingly deserted. After discussing the possibility that everyone had fled, they discovered Murara, Pollo's undead pet pig. As the pig crumbled to bones, Kiril determined that whatever power raised the undead soldiers was gone, and continued on expecting to find Carlos' corpse. Instead, upon entering Carlos' room the two discovered a baby lying on a plate next to the bloody wine glass.
They collected the baby and the wine glass; upon their return, Kiril handed the baby over to Empress Juno and reported that Carlos had vanished without a trace. During this time, Platonic managed to outwit Kiril and escape with the wine glass. Around the turn of 5th century EC, Kiril became acquainted with Will Jaakko; for his research, he elaborated on what he knew of Carlos, the Glass, and the Seven Deadly Sins.
Three Heroes[]
- "Gast, the life I lived here in this country with you and Prim... It was fun, as is. I guess it did end up being a way to stave off boredom after all."
- ―Kiril
During Marlon's war with the Kingdom of Lucifenia, Kiril served the King as a staff officer, becoming known as "The Wizard of Marlon" during the conflict. Around that time, Kiril met Leonhart Rogzé. Sensing his great magical potential, the mage began instructing the fascinated man in basic magical arts, though the noble departed for Beelzenia before his training was complete.
In EC 478, Kiril hired Mariam Phutapie to act as his escort while he traveled. During their time together, Kiril told her about the Seven Deadly Sins, including the Venom Sword. Around EC 480, the Marlon King's daughter tried to pursue a relationship with him, which he rejected. Soon after, he and Mariam came up against Lucifenia's executive officers, Prim Avadonia and Gast Venom, in battle. Summoning a windstorm, Kiril blew their weapons away and defeated the two. He was afterwards confronted by King Arth I on the battlefield and refused to fight him, instead fleeing into the Millennium Tree Forest.
A week later, he met with King Arth and Queen Anne, along with Prim and Gast, at the Sanosun Bridge. Arth invited him to join him and serve by his side; Kiril agreed to the deal and pledged his loyalty to the Lucifenian King, defecting to Lucifenia. Afterwards, he battled his former comrade, Mariam, both surviving the exchange.
Becoming involved in numerous conflicts as part of Lucifenia's military expansion, the sorcerer became close friends with Arth, his wife Anne, and his comrades, Prim and Gast. Around this time, he met the local blacksmith Langley and visited him whenever he needed his weapons repaired. By EC 490, they were regarded as the Three Heroes due to their wartime exploits together.
Twiright Prank[]
- "What—what are you carrying in your body...?"
- "Bwahahahahaha! It's what you've always been searching for, always, for five hundred years, Kiril Clockworker!"
- "–! A demon of deadly sin..."
- ―Kiril and Minister Presi
In EC 491, not long after the death of Queen Anne, King Arth went to Kiril for advice over the strange behavior of his son, Alexiel, fearing he was affected by magic or a demon. Learning about his poor behavior and sudden interest in becoming the heir, the mage suspected Minister Presi Rogzé was plotting something, using his claim that Alexiel was the actual successor in Anne's will. Arth affirmed he'd have Gast investigate and Kiril awaited his friend's results.
After a failed assassination attempt on Princess Riliane, the court mage rushed to Prime Minister Genesia's quarters, certain Presi was involved. When he arrived, he discovered Genesia's lifeless body, alongside Presi and Alexiel, the princess in the process of eating hare meat. Kiril accused Presi of killing Genesia, which the minister admitted to, saying he poisoned him.
Soon into the confrontation, Kiril learned that Presi was borrowing power from the Demon of Sin possessing him. The sorcerer prepared to fight him, but was overwhelmed by his demonic power during the fight. Before he could deal the final blow, Gast intervened to save Kiril. Fighting together, the two defeated and killed Presi and the court mage sealed the demon inside the hand mirror it came from, unintentionally removing Alexiel's memories of his twin sister as a side effect.
Later, Kiril attended a meeting with Gast and Prim as the two discussed the new developments in their lives, while she, disinterested, read a book. While the number of wars during King Arth's rule decreased, Kiril continued to work for the king.
Fateful Days[]
- "At any rate, I won't let it be like Venomania and Marlon... I won't have another failure like those incidents in my past. This time, I have to keep it from happening."
- ―Kiril regarding the possessed Alexiel
After King Arth's death in EC 499, Kiril attended his friend and ruler's funeral alongside Gast and the weeping Prince Alexiel. The sorcerer cried in private over his friend's demise. Later, Kiirl attended an assembly of ministers and the Prince in the Hall of Sounds. When Alexiel stood at the meeting and proclaimed it was his birthright to govern the nation, the mage noticed he was once again possessed by a Demon of Sin, more deeply rooted than before.
Once the conference ended, Kiril met with Gast and Prim and discussed the country's new political situation, and what they were planning to do about it now. After some debate, they ended up deciding to go with the original plan of enlisting Riliane, now Rin, as a maid in the palace, and otherwise respecting Alexiel's rule as prince. After some more banter, the mage retired to his room, ostensibly to sleep. That night, he received a prophetic dream of the Prince being executed, the royal palace assaulted, Elphegort invaded, and Gast lying dead in the Heavenly Yard.
Considering both Arth and Anne's deaths, the mage resolved to continue his original mission for the vessels of sin. The next day, Kiril met with Gast in the Hall of Mirrors, informing him after pretending to attack with him with a toy dagger that he intended to leave Lucifenia soon, now that Anne and Arth were dead. Gast pleaded with him to stay, and Kiril was swayed enough to train a new court mage to master magic for the Kingdom within two or three years.
Before the conversation could go much farther, the two were interrupted by Lily, relaying Prim's message for the head servant to look at the new servant girl. After Gast left, so did Kiril, telling Prime Minister Minis Stoup that he was heading for Elphegort to receive an apprentice.
The Apprentice[]
- "Hmmm, having one of my spirits reincarnated into a human, and brought up as a sorcerer... Thinking up such exorbitant ideas as usual. The reincarnation technique is your specialty, so I suppose it wouldn't be impossible..."
- ―Held and Kiril
Kiril met with Held in the Millennium Tree Forest to request permission incarnate one of his forest spirits as a human to help him prevent Lucifenia's destruction, telling him about Alexiel's possession and his inability to exorcise him. In order to cast the Clockwork Secret Art, he would need an apprentice. In light of Held's doubts and some further discussion of how the demon could have possessed Alexiel, Kiril bemoaned his failures in the cases of Venomania and Conchita, and his resolution to avert the disaster he saw in his prophetic dream.
Held remained calm and indecisive on assisting even as Kiril became increasingly frustrated, eventually falling asleep, to his great rage. As he attacked his trunk, he was hit from behind with pome fruit turning to find defensive Clarith and Irina in their animal spirit forms. After a brief discussion with them, Kiril considering them as apprentice candidates, he left. On the way back he spotted a girl on the way back, noticing her poor state but ultimately deciding to ignore it, returning to the palace before it got dark.
While walking in the halls Gast met with Kiril and discussed her trip to Elphegort, Kiril admitting he hadn't yet found a disciple. After a brief lecture from Gast on keeping his identity secret, Kiril inquired on how Rin was getting along with Alexiel. Gast's explanation was soon interrupted by the twins themselves playing, Alexiel threatening to behead Rin before tackling her. Kiril watched the following exchange between the two and Gast, noticing Alexiel's assertion that his threat was not a joke.
After the two left, the conversation soon shifted from Alexiel's troubling behavior to him and Rin's resemblance, with Kiril reassuring Gast that he would convince anyone who noticed that it was a coincidence. Remembering the Elphe girl he had seen earlier in the forest, Kiril asked about the race's persecution in Elphegort, Gast confirming it was still ongoing. The two engaged in light banter for the rest of the conversation.
About two weeks later, Kiril returned to the Millennium Tree Forest in time to hear Held giving Clarith a lecture on how spirits and gods should remain uninvolved in human affairs. After a brief disagreement on that matter, Kiril pressed Held for a response on his request, seething when it became clear he no longer remembered their conversation. Once he had calmed down, he said he felt another vessel of sin in Elphegort, and after a long moment of silence Held agreed to give him two spirits: one to train as his apprentice and the other to search for the sin fragment in Elphegort.
Settling for taking Irina and Clarith, and agreeing to return them to their spirit forms after three years, Kiril took the two spirits west to incarnate them in the forms of their choosing, preferably the image of someone who was not alive anymore. After the ritual was complete, Kiril found an abandoned house in the Lost Woods and sheltered the three of them there to practice their magic and learn the basics about being human. He trained the two and occasionally returned to the palace before coming back.
Once he was satisfied with their level of knowledge after three months of training, he tasked Clarith with locating the vessel in Elphegort, potentially in the hands of King Thorny Elphen, Duke Parkage Meld, or Chartette Freezis, and left for Lucifenia with Irina in tow.
During their journey through the forest, Irina explained her severe farsightedness in comparison to her time as a chipmunk. Though largely unconcerned with the range difference, Kiril reluctantly conjured a pair of glasses for her, though with the caveat that she only use them when needed as he thought them unsightly.
Reign of Evil[]
- "Lucifenia shall perish soon enough."
- ―Kiril's prophecy
Admitting his apprentice to the palace, Kiril began training her magical talent in preparation for teaching the girl the Clockwork Secret Art; during that time, the sorcerer told Irina what he had learned about the Glass of Conchita and its powers. Around that time, he overheard several of the ministers discuss Alexiel and Rin's resemblance. Pulling his influence as a wise prophet, the mage told them that there were always three people in the world that looked alike, hence their resemblance to one another. Around the same time, he began giving Rin healing ointment that he made.
In EC 500, he attended Prim's funeral after she was assassinated, though only to call her an idiot to her gravestone. About nine months since training them, Kiril received the sign from Clarith that she located a vessel of sin. Since Rin was heading into Elphegort, he ordered Irina to give the maid the Very Amazing Green Onion to give to Clarith.
Later that night, the sorcerer contacted Clarith through the Very Amazing Green Onion. Hearing Clarith's report, Kiril learned that she had found Chartette Freezis was in possession of the Venom Sword while she was working for her and that Mariam Phutapie was plotting to obtain it. He told Clarith to watch the vessel in case it would cause trouble in the future, as well as explaining Mariam's purpose for searching for the sword. When Clarith asked about Irina, the court mage told her she would be able to use the Clockwork Secret Art within the next six months. As their signal began to fade, Kiril reminded his disciple to contact him if something serious occurred and to remain there and relax.
The next day, Kiril attended the conference in the palace's Hall of Sounds regarding the diplomatic missions to Beelzenia and Elphegort. As the minister's discussions of Rin's report began to drag, Kiril summarized that they needed to carefully watch Chartette Freezis and not let their guard down, congratulating Rin for her work. When Minis brought in Emperor Leonhart's gift later on, Kiril was dazzled by the sight of a baby ziz tiama and identified it as a "Very Amazing Octopus".
At the behest of the disgusted Alexiel, Kiril took the gift and held it in its glass container. After hearing Minis reveal that Empress Zita withdrew her engagement to Alexiel in favor of a white-haired girl she met, the sorcerer asked in disbelief if Zita's father actually agreed to the decision. Minis answered that the Emperor decided to respect his daughter's decision without giving him personal opinion.
Several days later, Kiril was in Alexiel's room when Gast returned from Elphegort to report any discoveries on the identity of Zita's secret lover. Hearing that Gast remained clueless, Kiril added that they only knew that she was a "white-haired girl" and that nearly everyone in Elphegort matched that profile. This led to Alexiel ordering Minis to invade Elphegort and slaughter its population of white-haired women.
When Alexiel ordered the Prime Minister to burn the Lost Woods for the invasion, Kiril objected on Held's behalf. For his disagreements with the order, Alexiel ordered Kiril's death. The furious court mage immediately resigned, and despite Gast's repeated pleas to not leave he persisted, suggesting he may even leave for the Eastern countries. Kiril then noticed Rin was watching them, and revealed to her his prediction of Lucifenia's inevitable demise. When she asserted that she would be staying with Alexiel, he told her to take care of her brother and bade a fond farewell to Gast, leaving for good.
White Hunting[]
- "Aaaaaagggh, enough! You're always so stupid! You, Alexiel, the Empress of Beelzenia, Rin, Prim, Gast, all of you, every one of you is a stupid, stupid idiot!"
- ―Kiril to Clarith
Leaving the palace with Irina, Kiril headed to the Lost Woods. With the help of his apprentice, Kiril used the Very Amazing Octopus he received to conjure a rainstorm to douse the fires burning the woods. The two left after seeing the Lucifenian soldiers retreat back to the palace and headed deeper among the trees. As they were congratulating, Kyle Avadonia suddenly approached him. The son of Prim offered the two shelter at his home, but the mage refused, since they were being hunted by the Lucifenian army. With that, Kiril and his apprentice disappeared into the forest's depths.
The sorcerer then contacted Clarith through the Very Amazing Green Onion, telling her to escape from Elphegort as his dreams were coming true. After Kiril had explained the situation, Clarith told him about how she was the "lover" that began the whole mess. Anxious, Kiril told her she needed to escape, being Alexiel's target, and reassuring her that he and Irina would try to curb the casualties until Lucifenia would fall by his predicted revolution. He ordered Michaela to head north of the city of Aceid, to Nemu, a place where she could use magic to cast a reincarnation spell to return to her forest spirit form. When Clarith refused, the mage ranted how she, Alexiel, Zita, Rin, and Prim were all fools and that everyone was an idiot.
Kiril was further aggrieved when he overheard Irina tell Clarith she too didn't want to return to her spirit form. After learning about Clarith's hiding place in a well in the Millennium Tree Forest, Kiril recognized the location and told her they would meet her there once everything calmed down.
He and Irina went to Chartette Freezis' mansion only to find it burned down. They infiltrated the nearby barracks to retrieve the Venom Sword but discovered the vessel of sin was missing and collected the rest of her property instead. After a short rest, they headed to Clarith's hiding spot. However, they arrived to find Clarith dead and the weeping Empress Zita instead.
Around that time, Kiril noticed Zita had been possessed by the Demon of Lust. After the Empress left, they retrieved Clarith's body and then witnessed it become tree saplings. Astonished, they visited Held and confronted him about the issue. They then learned that Clarith was chosen by the earth god to succeed him as the Millennium Tree. Angered, the sorcerer argued with him before the deity spoke with Irina and returned to his slumber.
Refuge[]
- "I'm used to it."
- ―Kiril regarding his recent failures
During the Lucifenian Revolution, the two traveled to the Freezis Mansion in Beelzenia to explain what had occurred to Chartette. The merchant, surprised by the revelation about Clarith, told them to give the sapling to Michaela. The two mages revealed they managed to recover Chartette's property from her burned-down mansion and, after some negotiation, returned them to her. Grateful, the merchant abided Kiril's request to hide them from Lucifenia and give him the Venom Sword. While there, Kiril sealed the Venom Sword, noting its magic felt weak, and was surprised to see Chartette's husband, Gakuto, there.
After hiding out for some time during EC 501, the two returned to Lucifenia once The Son of Evil was executed and traveled to the Held Monastery in Elphegort in search for Michaela. Finding her at the monastery, Kiril approached the green-haired girl and introduced himsef and Irina before offering her Clarith's sapling, telling her the whole truth about Clarith as a spirit and her transformation into a sapling, over tea.
He described how they found Clarith's body and commented that she believed Zita also contributed to her death and explained how she was chosen as the next guardian of the world by Held. Then he told her what Chartette told them and that Irina was reluctant to hand her over to the green-haired girl. After a short silence between the master and apprentice, Kiril said they would let Clarith decide, having Irina to conjure a manifestation of Clarith's human form from the sapling for MIchaela and him to see. Clarith chose Michaela, and Kiril departed with Irina.
About a week later, Kiril and Irina returned to check on Michaela. They secretly observed that Alexiel was with her, but decided to leave the situation alone, concluding that Alexiel should no longer be affected by the Demon of Pride. Proud to have acquired the vessel of Lust, Kiril decided to head to the East with his apprentice in search for the vessels of sin and the two stopped in an inn in Asmodean.
While there, he examined the sword and realized the Demon of Lust was absent from the weapon. Infuriated, he tore off the seal before flinging the blade. In his frustration, he came to the revelation that the Demon of Pride was absent from its vessel as well, he collapsed to the ground, distraught and telling his apprentice that the demon had vanished, even though he was certain it was inside the mirror when he sealed it.
Irina asked if it was possible for the demons to disappear from their vessels and Kiril denied it, saying their original bodies remained in the vessel even if they possessed humans. After the shocked sorcerer sat motionless for a short while, he stood up, began packing his luggage, and told Irina their trip to the East was cancelled until they figured out what happened to the demons.
Witch Hunt[]
- "I want you to explain from beginning to end. Everything from when you and Miss Irina left this house five years ago."
- "That's going to take a while."
- ―Yukina and Kiril
Irina and Kiril returned to Lucifenia to spy for information. As part of their search, Kiril had them pursue Empress Zita since she had been possessed by the Demon of Lust during their last meeting. With the Empress annexing Lucifenia as part of Beelzenia, Kiril and Irina infiltrated the royal palace where she resided and learned the Demon of Lust was gone and she had since been possessed by the Demon of Pride.
Once they found that Zita owned another one of the hand mirrors for the vessel, they attempted to steal it that night from her bedroom. In the midst of their theft, the Empress awoke and discovered their actions. Forced to flee, the two lost possession of the Venom Sword during their escape; they were later added to the "Witch Hunt" decreed by Empress Zita. Suspicious that Zita's two consecutive possessions weren't simply a coincidence, Kiril decided to investigate Emperor Leonhart.
In EC 502, the two traveled to the Beelzenia as part of their investigation. While attempting to find Leonhart at the Beelzenian Emperial Palace, they were instead ambushed by the Special Maneuvers Task Force and the sorceress Abyss P.L. Not expecting there to be other powerful mages left, Kiril was unprepared and was quickly defeated by Abyss in battle. As his body was taken by the sorcerer, Kiril used the Swap Technique to place his soul in Irina's body as she fled.
Reunited with the Apprentice[]
- "You're saying Abyss had taken over your body..."
- ―Empress Zita
In EC 505, when Abyss P.L. attempted to take Irina's body as well, Kiril's wrestled control of her body from the sorcerer, causing both men to faint. Kyle then attempted to slay the incapacitated Kiril but Irina stopped him, explaining that it was Kiril inside his proper body again.
After Irina fainted from exhaustion, Kiril followed Kyle and Yukina as they took the apprentice to her room. Kiril explained to Yukina how the Demon of Lust had been missing from the Venom Sword, how he had gone to the Lucifenian Royal Palace to find the Demon of Lust in Zita. However, the demon possessing her at the time had been the Demon of Pride, the Lust demon having left by that point; this led to Zita's overconfidence in starting wars with other countries.
Kiril told Yukina that someone else must have been the cause of Zita's possession, and explained how he and Irina had gone to Beelzenia to investigate Leonhart, only for him to be captured by Abyss P.L. and the Special Maneuvers Task Force and escape using the Swap Technique on irina. When Yukina asked who Abyss P.L. was Kiril stated he didn't know, having blown his soul away already.
The mage mused that Abyss could've been one of the "Ma"s of 500 years ago since he also seemed to have the swap technique; He then stopped, seeing the red cat from the battle walk into the room. After some questions of ownership, Kiril ended up handing it off to be adopted by Gakuto, who had entered soon after. Kiril remained in the mansion with the others for the time being, staying in Irina's room.
Battle of Castle Hedgehog[]
- "No way. Frankly I'm completely worn out from the duel with Abyss. Irina and I will have a hard time using magic until at least the next full moon."
- ―Kiril's response to Zita's plea for help
While drinking black tea with Irina in her room, Kyle came in with Zita Beelzenia and the sorcerer introduced himself. After sipping his tea in his seat, he explained what had happened to him to the empress. There was some slight contention by Kiril over Zita's actions towards him and Irina when she was possessed, she soon changed the subject to corpse soldiers who were sighted up north and that Leonhart and Lily both seemed to be at Castle Hedgehog, hence why she planned to soon march her armies upon the castle. Though requesting his assistance in the invasion, Kiril told her he and his apprentice would need time to recover from their fight. He then informed her that on the upcoming new moon, the dead soldiers would be at their weakest.
After the Empress haggled for Kyle's support, Zita thanked Kiril for the advice and began to leave when Irina offered to enchant the weapons of the Empress' soldiers. Though Kiril was somewhat put out by her cooperation, Irina reminded him of the need to obtain the Glass of Marlon, which was in Lily's possession. When Irina brought out two of the vessel of Pride's mirrors, Kiril added that Leonhart may still have the last piece, reaffirming the importance of sealing both the glass and the mirrors to neutralize the demons inside. Kiril finally agreed to cooperate, though adding that he and Irina wouldn't have a very large role.
Over the next few days, Irina and Kiril engraved enchantments into all the soldiers' weapons to help them combat the supernatural threat. Around that time, Kiril advised the attack during the day and that taking the Glass of Marlon from Lily would likely shut down the corpse soldiers. Having not yet given out all the provisions to the troops, the two mages traveled with the army to Grabia and helped oversee the reapportioning of the weapons in the main square. While Zita oversaw the event with him, Kiril stated she'd flee immediately if the town became a battlefield, as he was weak without his magic. He also added a more powerful enchantment to Keel's rocket glove, which Zita had with her.
During the battle across the Retasan Province, the mages remained at Lioness Castle to avoid the undead soldiers while in their weakened state. After the battle, Kiril met with Zita, Chartette, Yukina, Kyle, and irina in one of the castle's bedrooms while the Beelzenian Empress explained what had transpired with Emperor Leonhart and Lily. Afterward, Zita presented the Glass, hand mirrors, and doll vessel that Leonhart had said was modeled after the "Original Sinner".
Kiril had Irina take out the vessels they had, noting they now had four vessels, though still not sure what had happened to the Venom Sword's demon. Though Zita requested the sword back, Kiril refused, and furthermore explained he had already put a simple sealing spell on them. Kyle interrupted that they still had to decide what to do with Lily, who was present but unconscious.
There was some debate over the matter, Yukina wanting to tell Lily the truth, Kiril wanting to discard her, and Kyle wanting to hear Lily admit she'd killed Clarith and apologize. Kiril eventually agreed with the others, then explained they'd need to return to Rucolebeni and prepare first, commanding Irina to collect the vessels.
The group then heard a sound outside the room. When Chartette went to examine, they heard her talking to someone outside the room before being swiftly interrupted by a dull sound. When the door opened and the room was filled with a flash of green light, Kiril saw a masked man in the doorway before being rendered unconscious.
Once he and the others awoke, they discovered the vessels of sin missing, Chartette seriously injured, and Lily dead. Kiril was then taken to another room to check if he needed treatment. Furious that the vessels of sin slipped from his grasp again, the purple-haired sorcerer recalled what she saw, realizing Abyss P.L. had actually been the red cat he always had with him and that he had taken possession of the missing Gakuto to steal the vessels of sin.
Kiril spent the next two weeks searching for the perpetrator with Irina and Kyle. During the period, he shared what he concluded with his two compatriots. Kiril then determined the fugitive mage would've most likely fled to the nearby Lucifenia, given Beelzenia's embargo on Elphegort and the other nation's close distance from the nation.
Kiril then requested Kyle search the Lucifenia territory for Abyss and the swordsman agreed. While sending Irina to search for him in Levianta, Kiril continued his search in Beelzenia. After Kyle successfully defeated Abyss P.L. and freed Gakuto, Irina and Kiril collected and sealed the Glass of Marlon and Marlon Spoon in his possession.
Voyage East and West[]
- "Yes, the Sorcerer of Time, Kiril Clockworker. But he... they still haven't returned from the East."
- ―Yukina
In EC 508, both Kiril and his disciple became involved in the Four Horsemen Incident caused by Neo Apocalypse and Abyss P.L. Around that time, Kiril lost the Glass of Marlon to the villainous sorcerer. Sometime after EC 531, Kiril met with Aile Freezis and she agreed that Kiri; was allowed to freely utilize the wealth and power of the Freezis Foundation, forging a contract. In EC 548, Kiril and Irina began their journey East in pursuit of the Twin Blades of Levianta.
In EC 549, they came upon a large wall blocking their path, and a watchman who refused to let them enter on the grounds that the king had mandated that none except their own people were allowed to pass through the gates. Following the refusal, Kiril and Irina made repeated attempts to make their way inside by disguising themselves as the people of the nation. When they were discovered for a third time, Kiril lost his temper. Conjuring a powerful wind, the sorcerer blew the watchman away and opened the gates with Irina. They were both bewildered to find nothing on the other side.
Soon after, they came upon a vast ocean. The two later took a small boat across the sea to Jakoku. The two were then reunited with Keel Langley and allied themselves with the Tokugawa faction, taking part in the Jakoku Civil War. After failing to retrieve the Twin Blades of Levianta for years, Kiril and Irina left Jakoku in EC 558 and returned to the West. Some time after Michaela and her monastic order, the Sisters of Arklow, erected an examinations system to protect the New Millennium Tree, Michaela gave Irina and Kiril permits to freely enter the Millennium Tree Forest.
Investigative Journalist[]
Some time later, Kiril was approached by Aile. Terrified at the prospect of growing older and dying, Aile begged the sorcerer to give her the secret to immortality, though he refused. Later on, he discovered that Clarith had used her power to extend Aile's lifespan in violation of Held's rules not to interfere with humans; as a result, he quarreled with the god.
During the late sixth century EC, Kiril decided to disappear from the public eye due to his legendary status becoming more of a problem. He and Irina chose to masquerade as Aile's deceased great-granddaughters, Hanne and Heidemarie Lorre with her approval. They used the resources and power at her disposal to assist in their quest to collect the vessels.
In order to maintain his disguise, Kiril regularly dyed her hair green and used a spell to change his eye color to match. With Aile's influence, Hanne became an investigative journalist for the Schuburg Newspaper Company in Aceid, Elphegort, suspending contact with 'her' "sister" for prolonged periods of time.
During this time she also became acquainted with Shaw's grandson, Dashaw Freezis, their friendship soon leading to Dashaw developing feelings for her. Around the same time, Hanne became acquainted with Shaw's aide Bruno Elphen. Over the course of her newspaper work, Hanne met and became close friends with Constable Yuzette Ora, telling her stories of legendary heroes such as Prim Avadonia.
In EC 597, Hanne attended a business meeting with Dashaw in the town of Lioness. During the event, the town was suddenly swept up in flames. Oblivious to the approaching fires around her, Hanne was pushed out of the way by Dashaw and watched as her friend burned alive. Learning the perpetrator was allegedly the famed "Kiril Clockworker", Kiril stuck to his Hanne persona while he and Shaw searched for his impersonator randomly causing trouble. In EC 608, Hanne visited her fake great-grandfather for a time before returning to Elphegort.
