"Perhaps I’m mistaken on my morality of the world society we live in. But the world’s never really going to get better just by yelling about love and peace."
―Elluka

Elluka Sudou, also known as the Cursed Gardener, was a USE soldier, the leader of the Tasan Party, and a descendant of Gumina Venomania. Losing her brother to Nemesis Marlon's injustice, Elluka joined the anti-government organization in opposition to the blatant corruption. Years later, she came to Evil's Theater in search of the Venom Sword. Put on trial by the Director Doll, she was saved by the Waiter and became a choreman for the theater inhabitants.

History[]

Early Life[]

"Then... could you at least return that–that katana to me? It’s a very important heirloom passed down in my family!"
―Elluka asking Nemesis Marlon for the Venom Sword

Born as the second child of a member of the Sudou Family and the younger sister of Bruno in the Union State of Evillious in EC 960, Elluka lived in Levianta's Samadin region with her family. Born with a curse from her ancestor Gumina Venomania that gave her an uncontrollable lust for men, Elluka tried combating the curse by distancing herself from men and carving anti-demonic runes onto her body, to no avail.

Later on, Elluka became a sergeant major in the Leviantan military. In EC 978, her commander Shiro Netsuma had her and her brother assigned to tend to the playwright Ma while he lived in the army quarters, Ma was told to ask Elluka or Bruno for anything he needed. That same year, Bruno was framed and convicted for the murder of Medea Col by the Dark Star Bureau Director Nemesis Marlon. After Bruno's trial, Elluka quit the military.

She then attempted to set up a meeting with the judge for several days. Unsuccessful each time, Elluka traveled to Nemesis' mansion that night, refusing to be sent away. After she pleaded with Nemesis that Bruno was innocent, the judge threatened her with the ramifications of her words and she silently listened to her reasoning for Bruno's guilty verdict. Elluka then tried to at least retake the Venom Sword from Nemesis' custody and failed, Nemesis forcing her to leave after. Embittered, Elluka became president of the Tasan Party.

For Justice[]

After Bruno escaped and became a fugitive, Elluka kept contact with him while he lived in Rolled under the name of one of Elluka's subordinates, "Shakuson". As president of the Tasan Party, Elluka began working tirelessly from both Levianta and Elphegort to put an end to Nemesis' corruption. Over time, she also began suffering from not having contact with the Venom Sword, understanding that whatever was inside the sword had acted upon her like a drug while it was in her family's possession. She also requested that the real Shakuson go by the name "Ben" from then on.

In EC 982, Elluka began looking into Gallerian Octo, the perpetrator of several killings in Rolled and Bruno's friend, by Bruno's own request. Obtaining documents from Nemesis' aide Nyoze Zero, detailing among other things Nemesis Marlon's history with the playwright "Gakuga Octo", Elluka discovered that Gallerian was Nemesis' illegitimate son and an assassin for the Dark Star Court's secret espionage force, PN. She subsequently wrote a letter to Bruno keeping him updated on current events, as well as suggesting he continue observing Gallerian as he could be key to taking down Nemesis.

When Elluka received a reply from Bruno, her brother had stated his refusal to use Gallerian; furthermore, Bruno instructed her not to hurt him if he ended up shooting him for his employers. After Gallerian shot Bruno in December of EC 982, Elluka had him tracked as he fled to Retasan and then had him abducted from his hotel room. In private, Elluka met and spoke with her brother's killer, learning that he had fled to avoid his employers, whom he now hated.

When Elluka brought up that one of them was his mother, he asked for her to confirm this and she shared with him all that she had learned about Nemesis and Gakuga Octo. Elluka then began trying to convince Gallerian to join the Tasan Party once he initially refused. As she did, she covered a variety of topics with him and discussed the various objectives of the party, including ending the corrupt Dark Star Bureau, ending the war going on in Evillious, and stopping the discrimination of native Elphes in Elphegort.

As Gallerian continued to have doubts, Elluka espoused her philosophy of achieving justice even if one had to do bad things to do it; when the conversation turned back to Bruno, he pointed out how he had refused to use him and wanted to save him until the very end. After this, Elluka successfully convinced Gallerian to join the party and take revenge on those like Nemesis, who had taken his loved ones from him.

Leviantan Civil War[]

The following year, Elluka attended Shiro Netsuma's trial for the slaughter she instigated at Zenosai and the murder of Mira Elphe, observing as Nemesis give Shiro a not-guilty verdict. Not long after, she joined Gallerian at Mira's grave and listened as he talked about his relationship with the woman, pointing out that Nemesis had betrayed her memory by her recent verdict. The two chatted for a time about the progress of the Tasan Party and the strange occurrences happening in the world; afterwards, Elluka had them leave the grave, explaining how the time for revolution was at hand with the disgruntled populace and soldiers.

Elluka also instructed Gallerian to take revenge by killing Shiro and Nemesis, himself. A month later, in August of EC 983, the Tasan Party instigated a civil war in Levianta led by Elluka Sudou. During the fighting, Elluka led the militia to murder Jason Jack as their first victim, in retribution for his committing the murder that Bruno was framed for.

Elluka's troops then targeted the corrupt official Bindi Freezis, only for Bindi to be smuggled out of Alicegrad. After USE soldiers were brought in to quell the riots, Elluka was able to turn the disgruntled soldiers onto the side of the militia due to his military background. On August 10th, Elluka and her men successfully captured the Dark Star courthouse and arrested Nyoze Zero.

Finding Nemesis had escaped, Elluka had her tracked to her house; she and the militia surrounded the house and waited for Gallerian to arrive, instructed to let him handle Nemesis. While they waited, they were attacked by blue flames, which surrounded the mansion. After Gallerian arrived and asked about the fire, Elluka explained what had happened and watched as Gallerian seemingly began talking to himself over it. She then tried and failed to convince Gallerian to leave Nemesis to burn to death, only watching as he went inside and confronted her. Not long after, Gallerian shot and killed Nemesis as they'd agreed.

Evil's Theater[]

"I carry this fearsome curse upon my body and, to undo the curse, the sword passed down from my ancestors was needed. I came to this forest, alone, to seek it."
―Elluka's "testimony"

Following the Leviantan Civil War, Elluka reformed her organization as a political movement in Elphegort and the Tasan Party became immensely popular in the wake of Nemesis' downfall. When Gallerian's history in the criminal gang Zeus was discovered and he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment, Elluka used her influence to arrange a shortening of his sentence; in EC 989, Gallerian was released from prison and rejoined the party, becoming elected as its vice leader below Elluka.

Years later Elluka, still suffering from her uncontrollable lust, ran away from Aceid, unable to do her job properly and not wanting to hurt Gallerian. She then headed for Evil's Theater where Nemesis Marlon's fortune allegedly had been stored, hoping to find the Venom Sword there. After she arrived at the theater, she managed to elude the Master of the Graveyard and his servants Arte and Pollo; however, she was then knocked unconscious by Worldeater.

Shortly after, she was trialed and sentenced to death by the Master of the Court. As she awaited her execution, the Waiter stepped forward and recruited her to be their choreman. With few other options, Elluka became the new "Gardener" of the theater, replacing the mage and playwright, Ma. At some point, Waiter cured her curse using the Venom Sword.

Afterward, Elluka began cleaning up after the residents and doing any jobs they needed of her. She also began helping Ma with creating screenplays about various characters related to the Seven Deadly Sins for the theater. Using her Purple Dream ability, she was able to detail the lives of her ancestors to better understand her curse; using the experiences she envisioned, the Cursed Gardener was able to adapt numerous historical events into screenplays.

Around this time, she had a dream envisioning the Master of the Court's future should his utopia be realized. Concerned about its relation to the world's destruction in EC 999, she wrote down her vision as one of the screenplays, although the other theater residents paid it no mind when showed the screenplay. During her time there, Elluka learned that the Servants were merely copies of Hänsel and Gretel created from their remaining wills left in the Glass of Marlon. She was also made the replacement for the unawakened vessel of Lust.

In EC 998, Elluka attended the "trial" held by the Master of the Court, searching for the vessel of Wrath, annoyed they didn't just have a normal meeting. During the assembly, she explained her need for the Venom Sword after being given permission by the Master of the Court. Later, Elluka was tasked with organizing the court "motions" for the Master of the Court and she reviewed the cases while reflecting on what they learned from each story. When Evil's Theater was destroyed by Punishment along with the rest of the world in EC 999, Elluka perished with the rest of the theater's inhabitants.

World's End[]

"For this 'evil’ we must extinguish–we need only target five people."
―Elluka addressing the Tasan Party[src]

Following the destruction of the Third Period in EC 999, Elluka was one of the many human souls trapped on the ground world as it merged with the Hellish Yard. She then joined the efforts of Pale Clockworker, Nemesis Marlon, and Michelle Marlon to save the world, not given the full details but knowing that they would enact a Re_birthday with the irregular twins Adam and Eve, and that they needed all the most compatible Demon of Sin contractors. After Eve reconstructed Evil's Theater, Elluka watched a film there about the vessels of sin until her comrades, the spirits of the Tasan soldiers, arrived to the theater.

Elluka then addressed them at the center of the gathering, talking about the "evil" that had plagued the world through its various catastrophes and the circumstances of the world's destruction by Gallerian Octo. Claiming the soldiers must destroy the source of all evil to save the world, Elluka implored his comrades to use the Black Box Type X that they had to target Gumina Venomania, Carlos Marlon, Alexiel Lucifen d'Autriche, Gakuga Octo, and Gallerian, as part of their "god-given" mission.

Elluka then returned to Evil's Theater, residing in the Director's room with Nemesis. When Alexiel came to confront her with the other sin contractors, Elluka met with the boy and discussed her reasons for going back on her debt to him, albeit directing him to ask the Sleep Prince when he was available. She then offered what little information she knew about the current state of the theater and its inhabitants. Hearing someone enter, Elluka left the rest of the explanation to Nemesis and left for the entrance.

There, Elluka found Gallerian, Rin, Carlos, and Carlos' servants come to confront them. Wielding a gun and sword, Elluka took on Gallerian and Rin while Carlos and his servants attacked the others. Adam and Eve then ran out to Elluka during their duel; they were followed by Alexiel, whose soul had been possessed by Ma and who had absorbed all of the other sin contractors. Although trying to attack Ma, Elluka was quickly dispatched and only watched the confrontation between him and the others.

When, in response to Ma, Eve initiated the Re_birthday prematurely, Elluka panicked before the reformatting began. Watching Ma escape the theater, Elluka urged Rin to kill Alexiel to save the world and briefly attempted to kill Gallerian to prevent Ma from using him as well. She was soon after trapped in the theater while Rin and Gallerian escaped. As part of their invocation of the Court ending, Elluka was caught in the "reformatting" by Pale and traveled to a repeat of the Third Period, eventually reincarnating.

Personality and Traits[]

"What I think we ought to prioritize more than anything else—is justice! As long as we have that, our world can become a utopia…And I’m prepared for there to be sacrifices to achieve that."
―Elluka

Elluka was an individual embittered by her experiences. As a result of the corrupt climate of the USE, Elluka originally was instilled with a strong sense of justice which she took to extremes. Wanting to end the suffering in Levianta and Elphegort at any cost, Elluka espoused an ideal that the ends justified the means and that one should be willing to do bad deeds, even murder, if it meant protecting someone else or ending corruption. Although seeming to take a more nuanced view of "justice" later, Elluka continued to despise corruption and, at the world's end, espoused extreme methods to "save" it.

Following her introduction to Evil's Theater, Elluka appeared more pessimistic, often sighing and despairing of the outcome of her or others' endeavors. As part of this, through the use of her Purple Dream ability, Elluka became concerned about the outcome of collecting the vessels of sin, believing that EC 1000 would herald the world's destruction. She also became hostile to the idea of pointless and harmful heroics being justified with "justice", seemingly in spite of her attitudes in the Tasan Party.

Despite these demeanors, Elluka was not distressed by how she had become used to living in the theater with the inhuman inhabitants, although sometimes exasperated by their strange natures. She also considered herself different from humans, possibly due to her being affected by the Venom Sword. Elluka herself remained concerned with this "curse" and suffered as though from drug withdrawal without the presence of the sword. Aside from this, she was interested in learning about her ancestry and origin using her prophetic ability. She was also very observant, taking notes and formulating theories on all she learned while in the theater.

At the world's end, Elluka appeared to put aside her misgivings with Nemesis, working with her to revive the world. Despite this, she still maintained her extremist facade when in front of the other members of the Tasan Party.

Skills and Abilities[]

"Every once in a while, I tend to get prophetic dreams. When I do, I write them down. I thought maybe they could be useful in some way."
―Excerpt from Elluka's writings

Elluka was trained in the Union State of Evillious military, attaining the rank of Sergeant Major, and as leader of the Tasan Party she exerted great skills in management, charisma, military leadership, and investigation. Besides this, she inherited her ancestor's prophetic dream ability she denominated as "Purple Dream", allowing her to dream events from either the past or future. Her ability to peer into the past was assumed accurate, used to help construct the screenplays about past events with Ma. However, her ability to see the future was often inaccurate, estimating her vision about the alleged utopia having less than a fifty percent chance of being correct.

Although dubbed the "Gardener", Elluka's work at Evil's Theater ranged from tasks of choreman to that of a secretary, filing and organizing the transcripts for the Master of the Court's "court cases". She also had skills as a scriptwriter, collaborating with Ma in creating the screenplays of Evillious' past. Because of her visions and collaboration with Ma, Elluka became very knowledgeable of Evillious' history with the Seven Deadly Sins, creating several theories about the different people she envisioned.

Due to her curse resulting from her enchantment by the Venom Sword, Elluka uncontrollably lusted after men to the point that it crippled his life, with the Venom Sword being able to assuage her curse whenever she was near it; this led to her addiction to the Venom Sword's presence, which she herself likened to being addicted to opium.

Character Connections[]

Bruno Sudou: Elluka's brother. Elluka and Bruno were close, with Elluka trusting Brunp completely and becoming motivated to take down Nemesis in the wake of her brother's false conviction. As part of this closeness, Elluka utterly respected Bruno's word, not killing Gallerian on his request despite him being his killer.

Gallerian Octo: One of Elluka's partners. Although initially knowing he as her brother's killer, Elluka hoped to use Gallerian to bring down Nemesis and, as Bruno additionally had loved Gallerian, spared him and sought to turn him against him former employers. The two worked closely together in the Tasan Party until Elluka's disappearance into Evil's Forest. Although lusting after him as part of her curse, Elluka saw fit to abandon her post in order not to hurt him.

Nemesis Marlon: The woman who condemned Elluka's brother. Following Nemesis' false conviction of Bruno, Elluka became contemptuous of Nemesis' greed and corruption. As such, she became dedicated to bringing her down at any cost. After the world's destruction, she set aside her hatred for Nemesis to invoke the court ending.

Master of the Graveyard: A fellow member of Evil's Theater. Elluka initially saw the Master of the Graveyard as an obstacle towards getting the Venom Sword and eluded him. After becoming the Gardener, Elluka cohabited with him as with the rest of the inhabitants of Evil's Theater and was particularly curious about the nature of his Servants.

Master of the Court: A fellow member of Evil's Theater. Elluka acknowledged it was only his naivete and not real malice that allowed him to be manipulated into executing visitors, but disagreed with his idea of Utopia. In addition, she was exasperated with his adherence to trials rather than regular meetings, although Elluka was not willing to face the Master of the Court's anger if she spoke on the matter.

Waiter: A fellow member of Evil's Theater. Elluka thought of him as a spoiled boy, understanding his selfish reasons for saving her. As the choreman, she would do some of his work around the theater and was curious about his resemblance to the male Servant.

Ma: A fellow member of Evil's Theater and the previous Gardener. Elluka got along with Ma well enough to help him with his screenplays using her Purple Dream ability, learning more about the past via their relationship. She also served as his employee, tending to his garden. Despite this, she disagreed with his theory that utopia would result from the sins being gathered.

Gumina Venomania: Elluka's distant ancestor. Elluka showed an interest in learning about her heritage since making her way into the theater, learning about her using her Purple Dreams.
