Hello. This is not the canon character Irregular.

"Sinful boy, you will not leave this room now and forever."
―The mysterious voice from the spring.[src]

Eccentric was the mysterious entity that resided inside the womb of the Master of the Court. Derived from Cecil Dévoué sometime after the servant's death, he was imprisoned in the black box, treated as the Doll's unborn child, and awaited the day of his rebirth.

History[]

Early Life[]

"That boy is "eccentric"."
―Sickle[src]

Sometime after the death of Cecil Dévoué and his subsequent interventions in the Third Period, "Eccentric" was trapped inside of a black box, asleep,[1] which later ended up inside the Clockworker's Doll.[2]

Awakening[]

"The gear was removed. Consequently, it was in the dark. The black box buried in the sand won't be found. The boy awoke in a black room. So he was waiting, in the dark and loneliness. And a huge spring. The days of atonement began."
―Ma[src]

Irregular awoke in orange handcuffs and magenta chains in the black box. Alone and unable to see or hear anything, he shivered in the darkness. From an enormous spring above his head, an eerie voice[3] told the "sinful boy" he would be trapped there for all eternity and never leave his room.[4] At that moment, he remembered all his sins he had committed in life and realized why it had all ended, recalling how he couldn't go back to that time anymore. Seeing the chains that bound him, he concluded they represented the blood and tears shed by someone[5] and wondered who was singing the mysterious lullaby he heard in his prison,[6] recognizing the song as the same one from his execution.[7]

An unknown amount of time passed before Eccentric asked the spring how long it had been while hearing that singing voice.[8] Learning of the healing nature of the song and eventually realizing its meaning and purpose, Eccentric added his own words to the mysterious lullaby.[9] One day, the spring opened for the first time and a small light fell from it. Certain it was a message from Héroïne, Eccentic then heard a voice from the spring's surrounding quietly say it wasn't impossible for him to be forgiven, and something could still be done.[10] After transmuting the words "water" and "evil" into the lullaby,[11] the orange handcuffs came off and told him he would be reborn. The magenta shackles came off afterward and said it was his new birthday today. The room around him brightened and began turning white and he prepared to see Héroïne again.[12]

Personality and Traits[]

After waking up inside the dark room, Eccentric was flooded with memories of his past, remembering the numerous wrongs he did during his life.[13] He also recognized the meaning behind his chains and the purpose for his apparent punishment.[14] Like Cecil, Eccentric held a close bond to Héroïne and was determined to reunite with her when he was "reborn".[15]

Character Connections[]

Master of the Court: The vessel holding Irregular. Eccentric viewed the Master of the Court as a prison, unable to actually see her from the dark of her womb, and found her voice to be unnerving. Nonetheless, he eventually found comfort in the lullaby she sang to him.

Waiter: Irregular's "other half". She seems to be waiting for him to reborn.

Cecil Dévoué: Eccentric's past self. Eccentric manifested sometime after Cecil's death, and has been referred to as Cecil by name.

Trivia[]

Conceptualization and Origin[]

  • Eccentric parallels Jesus Christ, "conceived" in the Master of the Court's womb without a father and is hinted to be reborn as a more powerful being: the Master of the Heavenly Yard.
  • The term "eccentric" means to not act according to established rules, laws, or customs; it also means to lack continuity or regularity in actions and also to not belong as part of a regular group or organization but rather be raised for a special purpose.
  • The Master of the Heavenly Yard's relation to the Heavenly Yard is connected to the event of Heaven in Hieronymus Bosch's The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things.
  • "Eccentric" is a synonym to "irregular", the name of his canon counterpart.

Curiosities[]

  • In an illustration in Evils Court of the different "Masters", Eccentric is labeled as the Master of the "Heavenly Yard"; interestingly, this name is shared with title attributed to Sickle, the god of creation.
  • In Heavenly Yard, Sickle refers to Eccentric as "Cecil".
  • The Master of the Heavenly Yard's posture is reminiscent of Cecil's pose from The Daughter of Evil PV; similarly, both are portrayed in such a position before their formal debut.
  • In the original Re_birthday song PV, Eccentric is portrayed in garb evocative of his UTAU, Ciel; when he later reappears in Capriccio Farce, he is instead portrayed in the same attire as Cecil.
  • In Re_birthday, Eccentric comments that he had heard the Clockwork Lullaby before; interestingly, Cecil inexplicably hears the lullaby shortly before his execution.
  • Like the Male Servant, Eccentric is blind. However, he can see flashes and differences in brightness and color, allowing him to note the dark room, orange handcuffs, magenta shackles, and when the room he occupies is brightened. Both are represented by Sekaine Ciel.
