Karchess Marlon was the King of the Kingdom of Marlon and one of Lukana Venomania's many victims. After marrying Princess Aprilis and becoming King, he had an affair with his favored retainer, Yufina Castella, leaving his treasured keepsake with the Countess while journeying to the Beelzenian Empire. While visiting Asmodean, the king was enchanted and abducted by Duchess Venomania, becoming the eighth member of her harem.

History[]

Early Life[]

Karchess was born in EC 110 within the Marlon Royal Family, the only child of the King and Queen of Marlon. Later, the prince received a Golden Key pendant as a keepsake from his mother, wearing it on his person at all times. Karchess was later betrothed to Princess Aprilis of Beelzenia to forge a political alliance between the two nations for the nation's planned conquest of the neighboring Lioness. As the couple prepared their wedding, the Five Dukes agreed to help arrange it and the two were married in a lavish ceremony.

During the period, Karchess became acquainted with Aprilis' siblings Janus, Febria, Martius, and Kio. When his father suddenly died sometime after, Karchess ascended the throne as King while Aprilis became his Queen. Over time, Karchess became dissatisfied with his wife. He also met and fell in love with his favored retainer Countess Yufina Castella, the two entering an affair and regularly meeting with one another in private.

Homecoming[]

In March of EC 136, Karchess agreed to join his wife at her homecoming to Beelzenia, learning they'd stay in the capital of Rucolebeni for a few days before touring the country and meeting the Five Dukes for three weeks. Traveling to the port town of Jamet the day before their departure, the young King left Aprilis and secretly met with Yufina again and exchanged the usual intimacies. Realizing he would be discovered if he stayed too much longer he tried to leave, only for Yufina to stop him.

As Yufina pleaded for him to stay, Karchess chastised her only to be touched by her insistence to be with him. He gave her his key pendant to keep until he returned; when Yufina became angered at what appeared to be payment for ending the relationship, Karchess clarified that he wouldn't be gone too long and promised to see her as soon as he returned. He then bid her goodbye and departed, returning to Aprilis and leaving with her to Beelzenia the very next day.

After arriving in Beelzenia two days later, the couple and their entourage took a carriage and arrived in Rucolebeni over a week later. Once they entered the imperial palace's throne room, the uncomfortable Karchess silently watched while Aprilis greeted and praised Febria. Once the other siblings arrived Karchess watched the "pig" siblings converse, before the more slender Kio offered to give his a tour of the palace. With Kio' insistence, the two left the other siblings to catch up as they explored the palace.

As the two talked, Karchess shared with Kio his dissatisfaction with his arranged marriage and questioned if Kio had anyone that he really liked, although the other man denied it. The two were then interrupted by Baron Tae Conchita, and a confused Karchess watched him discuss matters of massacres and madness in Asmodean before he left. When Kio inquired about his future plans in Beelzenia, Karchess mentioned that he and Aprilis would be visiting Asmodean, the Venomania Family's territory. He then listened to Kio advise he make his stay in Asmodean as brief as possible, as the area would likely be dangerous. After Karchess agreed, Kio playfully escorted him around the imperial palace.

Venomania Event[]

The royal couple later toured the various regions of Beelzenia, with Asmodean being their last stop. Hosted by Duchess Lukana Venomania, Karchess listened as his wife discussed Lukana' father. When Lukana suddenly interrupted and asked how long they'd be staying in Asmodean, Karchess explained they would be staying the night at Marquis Marcs Donald's mansion in Lisa-A before departing back to Rucolebeni and then Marlon. The royal couple then excused themselves and left.

Later that day, Karchess and his wife invited themselves to the Donald estate, welcomed by the Marquis. That night, Lukana attacked the mansion and its guards, abducting Karchess. Enchanted by Lukana' gaze, he followed her back to his mansion and spent the night with her. When Lukana asked where his vessel was, Karchess, unaware she was referring to his golden key pendant, denied having or seeing any vessel.

A New Marlon[]

When Yufina successfully stabbed Venomania next year, Karchess broke free of the Duchess's spell and fled with her; hunted by both Marlon and Beelzenia, the two eloped and went into hiding. Plotting to overthrow Aprilis' reign and reestablish his bloodline as the rulers of Marlon, Karchess backed his new wife when she established a new, "legitimate" Marlon country, attracting the support of the surrounding nobles. Two years after Venomania's demise, they pulled a successful coup over Aprilis' government. During this period, Yufina and Karchess sired children.

Legacy[]

After his death, Yufina and Karchess' lineage continued to rule over Marlon for centuries, eventually conquering Lioness and gaining complete hegemony over the entire Marlon Island. The Golden Key Karchess carried continued to be kept in the royal family's possession for several centuries, with tales of Yufina' triumph over Duchess Venomania to save her beloved passed down to future generations since that time. And Adam Moonlit soul returns to become Clockworker Doll.

Personality and Traits[]

Karchess was a proper but affectionate man. Self-conscious of the political world he inhabited, the young royal acted prim and befitting of his status. Well grounded and mature, he had the sense to keep his public image unsullied and be cautious about any potential threats to it, even his own relationship with Yufina. Similarly he would never share his personal feelings out loud, such as his opinion that Aprilis and her siblings were like pigs. A proud patriot of his nation, Karchess also felt sorrow that his country's history would have ended within his generation, though accepting the political situation.

Despite this, Karchess wasn't emotionless, having a need for affection and the more exciting affair he had with Yufina. As such, he was unsatisfied with his lukewarm political marriage and disgusted by his wife physically, in addition to being frustrated by her subservient nature. He also greatly valued the golden key as a memento from his mother, considering it an extension of himself and rarely allowing it to leave his possession.

Skills and Abilities[]

As a member of the Marlon Royal Family, Karchess had a great deal of political clout among his constituents and was highly favored by Marlon's nobility. He also a possessed some political tact and a proper manner for interacting with fellow aristocrats and royals. However, the King lacked any combat training and was therefore useless in a fight, relying heavily on guards to protect him.

Character Connections[]

Yufina Castella: Karchess's lover and eventual wife. Finding her more exciting, cute, and of stronger character than his wife, Karchess loved Yufina and carried on a physical relationship with her despite the risk of their discovery. He thus found comfort in their affair compared to his relationship with his wife.

Although appreciative of Aprilis' kind and respectful nature, particularly towards him, Karchess had no love for the woman and was frustrated by her weak character as a ruler, while also finding her dissatisfying as a husband and like a pig in her corpulence. Although insisting that he didn't hate her, he nonetheless held no scruple against cheating on her with another woman and later overthrowing her rule.

Kio Beelzenia: Karchess's brother-in-law. Surprised by the prince' more straight-forward nature and handsome, particularly compared to that of his siblings, Karchess befriended Kio and appreciated his sympathy towards him as a man in an arranged marriage.

Adam Moonlit: Karchess's previous incarnation. Karchess doesn't really like his wife like Adam and Meta used to.
