HistoryEdit

Early LifeEdit

In BT 022, Seth Twiright created Meta alongside two other ghoul children. Given a unique personality and appearance by Seth, Meta rebelled and soon after escaped, fearing being put in cold storage. Sometime after, she fell off a cliff and lost her memories.

Due to her powers as an inheritor of Gilles involuntarily activating, Meta was abducted by a farmer, imprisoned in his house, and repeatedly sexually abused. Around the time she was twenty, the criminal Pale Noël found her, and urged her to kill the farmer. Doing so, she soon after joined Pale's organization Apocalypse. Moving into their base at Merrigod Plateau, Meta involved herself in Apocalypse' violent riots across the Magic Kingdom Levianta. She also, at some point, discovered her powers as a Gilles inheritor and used them to her advantage, amassing an army of brainwashed men that became known as the Red Devotees. For this, she became feared throughout Levianta, earning the moniker "The Witch of Merrigod".

As her romantic relationship with Pale deepened, Meta discovered that he was immune to her brainwashing powers, and that, as a ghoul child, he aged rapidly. Meta thus helped him maintain his youth by allowing him to feed off her magical power during intercourse, although this proved to not be enough. This led to Pale entertaining other lovers, including the young prostitute Milky Eights, which Meta tolerated under the belief that Pale would always come back to her.

When Pale recruited the Jakokuese refugee Raisa Netsuma into Apocalypse, Meta worked closely with her, although merely being civil with her.[1]

Project 'Ma'Edit

Later on, Meta crossed paths with Eve Moonlit and was distracted long enough to be captured and imprisoned by Leviantan forces.[2] Condemned to death, Meta was approached by Seth Twiright while awaiting execution in her cell and was offered exoneration in exchange for becoming a test subject for Project 'Ma'.

After accepting, she went to the Magic Kingdom's royal institute, and was impregnated with the seeds of god, giving birth to twins Hänsel and Gretel on December 27, EC 0. Sometime during their development, Meta had second thoughts about letting the children be used after recalling her own origin as a ghoul child; as a result, she stole them from the laboratory and fled to Elphegort.[3]

Starting a new life in the foreign country, the fugitive mother hid with her children away from people's eyes in Held's Forest.[4] A year later, in EC 001, Meta took her children out on a moonlit night through the forest; after putting them on the ground and leaving them for a moment, the witch returned to find them gone.[5]

Shortly afterward, she discovered that Eve Moonlit had run off with her twins and began chasing her through the forest. Just as Meta finally caught up with her in front of her home, the terrified Eve lashed out and Meta died at her witch's doorstep.[6]

LegacyEdit

Shortly after Meta's death, the disillusioned Eve realized her sin,[7] having believed that Meta was a bear the entire time. With Meta dead, Eve and her husband Adam raised the children in her place. The twins later killed the two before going on a search for their "real" mother and father.[8] Centuries later, Ma speculated that the reason Hänsel and Gretel's reincarnationsArte and Pollo, were so loyal to Banica Conchita was because of her resemblance to Meta.[9] After Mayrana Blossom became the second member of Père Noël, she chose the designation "Fourth Shadow" in reverence to Meta's rank in Apocalypse.[10]

In history, stories of Meta and her relation to Merrigod Plateau were recorded in a number of literary works, saying she had plunged the Magic Kingdom Levianta into chaos.[11] A cult faction also developed within the Levin Church, revering Meta as the holy virgin mother of the Twins of God. The leaders of the dominant Levia sect quickly suppressed these beliefs, asserting Church doctrine that Meta was merely a witch associated with Apocalypse. The Levia sect's oppression of the cult's heresy later resulted in the creation of Neo Apocalypse and the New Four Horsemen Incident.[12]

Magic Kingdom LeviantaEdit

Magic Kingdom Levianta[13] was a state in the Bolganio continent's Evillious region. Dominating as the world power during the early days of the Third Period, it became a hub for magic and its users.

HistoryEdit

Early HistoryEdit

Early in the Third Period, many humans began gathering in the north of Evillious, eventually settling as the country of Levianta.[14] A sorceress, the first Alice Merry-go-Round, later hired people to excavate numerous super technologies buried beneath them, streamlining the use of magic. As she faced resistance from the local Levia-Behemo worshipers, she established the city of Alicegrad with herself as queen, Levia-Behemo as the country's god, and a council comprised of six of the mages who served her and six natives.[15] These eventually became the foundation of the twelve cities making up the Royal Capital of the Magic Kingdom Levianta.[16]

Over time, the country grew, centered around the Levin faith,[17] along its main object of worship, the white ark Sin with the gods Levia-Behemo trapped inside. Said ark was sealed inside the country's temple.[18]

Over time, with numerous magic families flocking to the new nation,[10] the kingdom became among the most magically and technologically advanced nation in Evillious,[19] encompassing all of its northern region,[16] and rivaling the great Tasan Empire.[20] After the nation of Heldogort broke off from the kingdom, worshiping the dragon god Held in its pantheon, the Magic Kingdom Levianta severely repressed its neighboring country.[21]

Prophesied DestructionEdit

Around BT 005, its seventh queen, Alice Merry-Go-Round, prophesied that Sin would lead to the country's destruction and that the twin gods must be incarnated as humans to purify the ark and prevent their end. The Leviantan Senate then established Project 'Ma' to artificially produce the twin gods' human incarnations.[19] Following numerous applications, Eve Zvezda was selected for the project.[22]

After the subject failed to produce living twins and fled with the project director, Adam Moonlit, Seth Twiright took over the second project and selected Meta Salmhofer as the test subject.[23] Following the successful births of Hänsel and Gretel, Prophet Merry-Go-Round established the Evillious Calendar in commemoration and the kingdom celebrated; Meta fled with the twins soon after, making the project a failure.[24]

In the following years, new projects were established and either failed or were suspended. In EC 013, the Senate selected Irina Clockworker for the seventh project and was celebrated as the new Queen.[25] Around six months later,[26] Kiril Clockworker activated the ark Sin and the device went out of control, causing an explosion. Afterward, the freed dragon Levia-Behemo rampaged through the skies, reducing the Magic Kingdom Levianta into a ruined wasteland.[18]

Government and PoliticsEdit

Power StructureEdit

SethEscape2

Seth Twiright: one of Levianta's greatest scientists

The Magic Kingdom was a constitutional monarchy, with the ruler of the government restrained by that of the Senate.[27] The ruler also acted as the religious leader in the country.[28] With the Senate's consensus, the ruler could be removed from power and replaced,[29] with the senators managing the nation's day-to-day affairs. The Senate was also capable of sanctioning research projects when needed, with many researchers involved in the study of magic and medicine.[30]

MilitaryEdit

The magic kingdom had a capable military, presumably overseen by the Senate.[31] Among its duties were capturing criminals; it was powerful enough to kill even the likes of Apocalypse member Raisa Netsuma.[32]

EconomyEdit

Due to its heavy reliance on magical technology, scientists, engineers and artisans were a necessary trade in the Magic Kingdom. Among the latter, clockworkers were especially popular for creating and repairing the local magic tools.[33]

Society and CultureEdit

Chara img6

A surviving Leviantan

Leviantan society was heavily centered upon the worship of the twin gods Levia and Behemo.[34] This religious zeal led to the intense persecution of the Held followers of Heldogort, with Held being labeled as an evil god and his followers considered heretics.[35]

Above all, the Magic Kingdom valued magical talent, with multiple magic user clans gathering under its banner.[36] Compounding this, the use of magic tools was widespread,[37] and magic was formally taught.[38] The country also made use of advanced technology such as the televison.[39] The Magic Kingdom had some social stratification, with the wealthy having considerable influence in its politics.[18] Due to their malicious nature, HERs were feared by the populace and the Magic Kingdom made efforts to eradicate them.[40]

Geography and ClimateEdit

Levianta was a northern region of Evillious, located directly above Lucifenia and Asmodean. Originally, the Magic Kingdom consisted of flora and fauna but, following the Levianta Catastrophe, became a barren wasteland and was inhospitable. The climate was also much cooler and would snow during cold weather.[41] Compounding this, the nation experienced long winters and short summers.[42]

The Levia-Behemo Temple[note 2] was the place of worship for Levia-Behemo. It was located in the northwest part of Levianta, near Alicegrad.[44] The ark Sin was sealed inside the temple. Due to the danger of Sin, those suspected of malicious intent were banned from the temple. The temple was run by a religious order and members were expected to follow a strict conduct.[45] It was destroyed in the Levianta Catastrophe, though its ruins continued to exist even in the 10th century EC. It later became a pilgrimage site for devout Levin believers and tourists.[46]

Holy LeviantaEdit

Levianta
Holy Levianta,[51] also known more simply as Levianta, was a state in the Bolganio continent's Evillious region. Functioning as the spiritual headquarters for the Levin Church, it later became part of the Union State of Evillious.

HistoryEdit

Early HistoryEdit

In EC 301, the land was resettled with a national construction aimed at rebuilding the once great kingdom.[52] Called "Holy Levianta", the new nation became the center of the Levin Church and acted as the faith's headquarters. At some point, the nation made an alliance with the neighboring Kingdom of Elphegort. After the Kingdom of Lucifenia invaded Elphegort in EC 500, Levianta requested the Yellow Country stand down. Ignored, the religious capital remained uninvolved in the conflict.[53]

In EC 508, conflict between factions within the church led to numerous terrorist strikes by Neo Apocalypse. As the group attempted to bring about the fall of the church, the nation petitioned other countries to assist in their efforts to suppress the terrorists. Lucifenia sent them a single unit and the attacks were quelled later that year.[54] Afterward, the Levin Church's influence with its followers began to gradually decrease.

After some negotiation with the Freezis Foundation, the Evillious nations all agreed to the establishment of the World Police organization in EC 573.[55] In September, EC 609, Levianta imported 90% of the Freezis Fishery Association's abundant ziz tiama catch.[12] Throughout the 9th century EC, Holy Levianta began working with imperial nationals to create an organized union.

Union State of EvilliousEdit

Following the Aishikeru Treaty, Levianta joined Marlon, Lucifenia and Elphegort as part of the Union State of Evillious in EC 878.[52] At some point, a zombie epidemic broke out across Evillious, affecting Levianta.[56] In January of EC 982, Levianta sought an alliance with Elphegort to check on Lucifenia; the USE later consented to the alliance. After Asmodean declared war on Lucifenia, Levianta accepted Lucifenia's request for help and declared war on Asmodean. Later that year, Beelzenia declared war on Levianta among other countries.[57]

The following year in EC 983, General Tony Ausdin massacred the village of Zenosai in the Samadin region. After the man was exonerated by Judge Gallerian Marlon, revolts broke out in Alicegrad before spreading across Levianta.[57] After Elphegort invaded Lucifenia in EC 993 and was expelled from the USE, Levianta declared war on the nation. With Marlon's cooperation, Holy Levianta launched a two-pronged siege on Elphegort. In EC 998, the USE army succeeded in liberating Lucifenia.[58]

World's EndEdit

In EC 999, Levianta was completely decimated by Punishment. Following the end of the Third Period, the destruction site merged with the Hellish Yard along with the rest of the ground world.[17]

Government and PoliticsEdit

Power StructureEdit

MilitaryEdit

The Leviantan military was at some point weak and corrupt, unwilling to move troops into foreign territory except in self-defense,[59] and susceptible to bribery.[60]

EconomyEdit

Following the founding of Holy Levianta, tourism to the local temples became popular.[61] Due to its use as a cooking ingredient, the nation also imported a large amount of ziz tiama over the centuries.

Society and CultureEdit

As the headquarters of the Levin Church, Holy Levianta was heavily influenced by the religion. The country also contained remnants of the Magic Kingdom's culture, such as the use of ziz tiama, albeit as a food rather than as a magic tool.

Due to being a religious country, Holy Levianta's culture was somewhat exclusionary. Despite this, the establishment of the USE and the founding of Levin University led to increased cultural exchange due to the inflow of foreign students.[62] Automobiles were also invented in the nation during the EC 860s.[63]

Geography and ClimateEdit

Levianta was a northern region of Evillious, located directly above Elphegort and Asmodean. The climate was much cooler and would snow during cold weather.[64] Compounding this, the nation experienced long winters and short summers.[65] In the wake of the Magic Kingdom's destruction, much of their ruins remained, stretching as far as Asmodean.[66] Eventually, the area became hospitable again and it was made possible to resettle.[67]

Its last owner was Mikhail Asayev; following the end of the Four Horsemen Incident, the mansion was left abandoned due to Mikhail's reputation. It was later purchased as a facility by Levin University and converted into a multipurpose hall.[62]

GraveyardEdit

Graveyard[note 12] was a restaurant located in the area. The restaurant had a preset menu meal served in numerous courses while the waitrons interacted with the guests.[70] It was closed down after the Dark Star Bureau had the employees arrested on the grounds of their establishment's allegedly faulty license.[71]
