A list of plants and animals native to Bolganio. Many of them could be used to cast spells or create magic tools.

Flora

Green Onion

Green Onions were a type of onion native to Elphegort. Sometime after the foundation of Magic Kingdom Levianta, humans also discovered the green onion and began farming it, using it to make the Very Amazing Green Onion. The use of green onion communicators then spread throughout Levianta.

After the Levianta Catastrophe, the use of green onions to make magic communicators largely declined, with only a few mages still possessing the knowledge. At some point, Elphegorteans also began farming the green onion, treating it like a simple vegetable due to the knowledge of Magic Kingdom Levianta being lost. Sometime after, the people of Elphegort incorporated the vegetable into their diet, with the green onion becoming an ingredient used in various dishes.

Greeonian Plateau Rose

The Greeonian Plateau Rose was a type of rose exclusively native to Merrigod Plateau in Elphegort. During the days of Heldogort, shamans discovered the plant's medicinal properties. Grinding the rose's roots into a powder, the shamans developed a sleep medicine known as Gift, with said powder serving as the medicine's key ingredient. Due to the number of shamans dwindling over the centuries, the medicinal use of greeonian plateau rose waned; despite this, numerous individuals utilized Gift made from greeonian plateau roses for their own ends, the most notable being Prim Marlon and Margarita Blankenheim. By the EC 600s, the roses were mainly used for decoration.

Greeonian plateau roses were characterized by their pale emerald petals. Their roots, when ground to a powder and combined with other ingredients, could relax a person's bodily functions and induce sleep. However, if given the incorrect dosage, it could also kill those who ingested it, shutting down the victim's body and causing their throat to swell with inactive tissue. Furthermore, medicine made from greeonian plateau rose roots could be refined, making it lethal enough to kill a person with a single drop. If the medicine was also infused with magic, it was capable of becoming an airborne contaminant and even putting the souls of the deceased to sleep.

Mellalga Mushroom

The Mellalga Mushroom was a poisonous type of mushroom. Once eaten, it would make one's whole body swollen and red, as though being burned.

Millennium Tree

The Millennium Tree was a type of tree exclusively native to Elphegort's Millennium Tree Forest. In BT 528, the god Held was transformed into a millennium tree and used it as his body for centuries. In EC 500, Michaela's corpse was similarly transformed into a millennium tree sapling shortly after her death.

Replacing Held as the forest's millennium tree, the former spirit used the tree as her body for centuries. Sometime during the EC 600s, the criminal organization Père Noël began covertly extracting sap from the new millennium tree, intending to monopolize it as a cure for Gift. Later on in EC 609, Dr. Puerick Rogzé developed said antidote using millennium tree sap in the wake of the Toragay Epidemic.

Millennium trees were extremely long-lived, with a lifespan of around one thousand years. While its saplings were of average size, the tree was capable of growing to enormous proportions, reaching a towering height within centuries of being planted. The tree's sap also had a variety of uses, capable of extending a human's lifespan and even combating the symptoms of Gift. Aside from this, the tree's branches were quite flexible, capable of being bent and contorted without breaking.

Nechuha Tree

Nechucha Trees were a type of tree native to Asmodean. At some point, the people of Asmodean discovered the nechuha and began foresting it for its wood. Woodworkers in Lasaland then began using nechuha to make products, with the Gine Workshop growing famous for its nechuha dolls. Around the turn of the 6th century EC, nechuha dolls became highly prized collector's items. Nechuha wood was particularly sturdy and durable, making it popular among Asmodean woodworkers. It was mainly used to make wooden dolls.

Pome Fruit

Pome Fruits were a type of fruit native to Elphegort's Millennium Tree Forest. The fruit was very light and could easily be lifted and thrown by small animals.

Trauben Fruit

Trauben Fruits were a type of fruit native to the west coast of Elphegort's Lake of Amusement. At some point, the people of Elphegort discovered the fruit and began farming it. Around the 4th century EC, the villagers of Yatski developed a fine wine from the trauben, dubbing it "Yatski L'Opera" and exporting it to Beelzenia during the EC 300s. Banica Conchita later brought trauben to Beelzenia and used it to develop the Blood Grave wine.

At some point, Elphegorteans also devised a way to make jam using the trauben fruit. Eventually, use of the fruit spread throughout the kingdom, with trauben becoming one of Elphegort's primary crops by the EC 500s. Almost a century later, trauben products continued to be popular, with trauben jam being normally consumed by Elphegortean nobles. Trauben fruit was bluish purple in color and grew on a tree.

Fauna

Baemu Pig

Baemu Pigs were a rare variety of Tasan pig native to the Tasan Empire. Sometime before the first century EC, the people of Tasan began hunting the pig, using its flesh to make meat pies, which their emperor Ang was known for enjoying. As a result, of this extensive hunting, the baemu's population declined.

After the Tasan Empire's collapse sometime after EC 013, the Levin Church began associating the pig with the empire's fall, forbidding its followers to eat it and calling it a "messenger of demons". By the EC 300s, the baemu became a rarity; because of this, the pig was highly sought-after by Beelzenian gourmands. By EC 983, it was thought to be extinct.

What differentiated the baemu from regular Tasan pigs was its flaming red hair and horns, as well as being larger. Despite the Levin Church's outlawing of its consumption, Beelzenian gourmands considered its flesh to be very delicious. The baemu was also very rare and difficult to capture, earning it the reputation of a phantom.

Bergen Bug

Bergen Bugs were a type of insect native to Toragay in Elphegort. It could be easily caught by young children.

Cupid Horn Sheep

Cupid Horn Sheep were a type of sheep native to Marlon. Sometime before the EC 900s, the people of Marlon domesticated the sheep and incorporated it into their diet. During the late 10th century EC, soup made from cupid horn neck was served in at least one restaurant in the USE mainland.

Demilamb Pig

Demilamb Pigs were a type of pig native to the Beelzenian Empire's Temilamb territory. Sometime before the EC 300s, Beelzenians domesticated the pig and incorporated it into their diet, with Demilamb pork growing popular among the empire's gourmands. Although its flesh was very fatty, it was considered by many gourmands to be the best kind of pig to eat. It also had a beautiful white fur coat.

Rollam Bird

Rollam Birds were a type of bird native to Lucifenia and Asmodean. During the EC 500s, the rollam bird was hunted for its feathers and meat. Its black feathers could be fashioned into products such as fine quill pens; meanwhile its meat was served as a dish, eventually becoming part of USE cuisine. Black Rollam birds are said to be the messengers of death. The bird shared its name with the city of Rollam.

Shadow Moon Pig

Shadow Moon pigs were a type of pig native to the Beelzenian Empire. Sometime before the turn of the 4th century EC, Beelzenians began crossbreeding Demilamb and Marlon pigs, eventually producing an entirely new breed. Beelzenians then incorporated the pig into their diet, calling the new breed "shadow moon". Sometime after, it was discovered that the taste of the shadow moon's flesh could be brought out after being processed and combined with other ingredients. Among the pig's unique characteristics was its lack of hair and pale flesh, which lacked the redness common to the flesh of other pigs.

Tasan Pig

Tasan Pigs were a type of pig native to the Beelzenian Empire's Tasan region. Sometime before the EC 300s, Beelzenians domesticated the pig and incorporated it into their diet. Despite its meat having an unpleasant smell, its internal organs had a unique taste. It was characterized by its black fur and resembled the baemu breed of pig, despite being smaller and lacking horns.

Ziz Tiama Octopus

The Ziz Tiama was a type of octopus native to the waters of the Hark Sea. At some point, the octopus was discovered by the people of Magic Kingdom Levianta and began being fished. Ziz tiamas were eventually used as magic tools by the Leviantans, sacrificed to the gods in prayer rituals. Extensively netted, the ziz tiama's population was eventually reduced by around 70% as a result.

Following the Magic Kingdom's destruction in the Levianta Catastrophe, sacrificial use of ziz tiamas greatly declined. At some point, the people of Marlon also discovered the octopus in their island's surrounding waters, although it was discarded whenever caught. By the EC 300s, ziz tiama became a part of Leviantan cuisine. Although also used for medicinal ingredients, the octopus was rarely eaten outside of Levianta. Later on, the octopus' food purposes were later discovered by Banica Conchita.

In the centuries following Banica's death, the octopus remained largely uneaten, stigmatized by many due to its grotesque appearance. By EC 609, the Freezis Fishery Association netted an abundant catch of ziz tiama; Holy Levianta imported 90% of said catch in September of that year. By EC 962, numerous large ziz tiama lived in Marlon's waters, making it difficult for the people to fish.

Conceptualization and Origin

• The green onion and its first usage in the novels by Michaela may be a reference to Hatsune Miku's character item, the green onion.
• The Nechuha tree's characters, when reversed, forms ハチュネ (hachune), likely a reference to Hachune Miku; the Clockworker's Doll, which is made from Nechuha wood, is fittingly represented by Hatsune Miku.
• The pome fruit's name may be derived the French word pomme, meaning "apple".
• The trauben fruit's name may be inspired by real-world grapes, with the fruit consistently being portrayed as grapes and using the German word for "grapes" as its name; Elphegort, the fruit's native country, is fittingly inspired by Germany.
• The Rollam bird's name, "Rollam" (ローラム), is likely a reference to the road roller (ロードローラー), a vehicle often associated with the Kagamine twins.
• In a livestream, mothy stated that the ziz tiama's name is derived from Tiamat, the primordial goddess of the ocean in Mesopotamian religion.
• The ziz tiama's other name may be derived from aotako (青蛸), meaning "blue octopus".

Curiosities

• The ziz tiama shares its name with the Ziz, a giant griffin-like bird in Jewish mythology; it is unknown if there is a connection between the two.
• In Epic of Evil: The Daughter of Evil Fanbook, the Trauben Fruit was voted as the twenty-sixth most popular character in The Daughter of Evil Series by Japanese fans, along with Abyss I.R., Shaw Freezis, Mikina Freezis, Eve Moonlit, and Sateriasis Venomania.
