The Netsuma Clan[note 1][note 2] was a race indigenous to Jakoku and later the Kingdom of Elphegort. After emigrating to Evillious, the clan was heavily persecuted for its violent behavior and driven to near extinction.

History

Early History

Sometime before the establishment of the Evillious Calendar, the Netsuma Clan dominated the Jakoku archipelago. After the collapse of Jamataikoku, the family's third head, Raisa Netsuma, emmigrated with some of the clan and joined the Apocalypse terrorist organization in Levianta. Raisa was later killed by the Leviantan army during a riot and the enraged clan began spreading terror across Evillious.[1]

Persecution

Afterward, the Kingdom of Elphegort began severely persecuting the Netsumas. Around that same time, the Netsuma population in Jakoku became extinct. In the second century ECHakua and Haru Netsuma had their homes destroyed by I.R. and Haru's body was subsequentally possessed by the sorceress.[2] In EC 136, Hakua was later abducted by Duke Sateriasis Venomania before being freed the following year.[3]

During the EC 200s, a Netsuma became a servant for the Conchita Family. She later died of the Gula disease in November of EC 296.[4] By the mid-fifth century EC, the Netsuma population across Evillious severely decreased. While persecution lessened over time, the surviving Netsumas continued to face severe discrimination in isolated communities throughout the region, especially the Green Country.[5]

Resurgence

Clarith was born on November 21, EC 479 and adopted by a shaman living in the village of Yatski.[6] After becoming a Levin nun in Lucifenia, she raised a Netsuma orphan boy left at her monastery, naming him "Ayn".[7] Clarith later founded the Sisters of Clarith in the early EC 530s.[8] Campaigning against discrimination, Clarith and her religious order helped improve the clan's survival.[9]

The orphaned Ayn later became the chief commissioner of the World Police after it was established in EC 573. His grandson Ayn Anchor later joined the World Police,[7] becoming a member of its elite International Works Department at the end of EC 609.[10] At some point, the Netsuma founded Zenosai village in Levianta as a settlement.[11]

Hell on Earth

After the destruction of the Third Period, all the dead members of the Netsuma clan residing in the Heavenly Yard were dragged back down to the earth as the ground world merged with the Hellish Yard.[12]

Trivia

Conceptualization and Origin

  • The Netsuma name is written as 熱魔 in Japanese kanji, using the kanji for "heat", "zeal", or "rage" and "demon", respectively.
  • The name "Netsuma" (ネツマ) shares the same characters with the phrase "tsumanne" (ツマンネ); the phrase was a result of a glitch in the Vocaloid software parodied in the song It's a Bokkoboko , becoming a catchphrase for Yowane Haku, the representative Vocaloid for several members of the clan.

Curiosities

  • White hair and red eyes were characteristic of the clan's members.
  • Several Netsumas were noted to possess different degrees of magical potential throughout the centuries.
