Meguru Conchita, born Meguru Glassred, was the wife of Duke Muzuri and the mother of Banica. After she and the rest of her household were cursed following her daughter's birthday celebration, Meguru struggled to survive as the illness killed off their servants over the following decade. Becoming indignant toward her child, Meguru later abused Banica for refusing to eat everything she was given.

History

Early Life

Meguru was born the daughter of Elphegort's Prime Minister sometime during the third century EC. Raised in the Kingdom of Elphegort as a member of the noble Glassred family, she later met Duke Muzuri Conchita of Beelzenia during his visit for diplomatic talks with her father. Eventually falling in love with him, the two married and Meguru later became pregnant with Muzuri's child in EC 296. After birthing their daughter in November of that year, Muzuri expressed his desire to name the child "Muraramurajakotasupopopo". Meguru insisted they name her "Banica" instead and the gourmand reluctantly agreed.

Afterward, the exhausted Meguru stayed with her daughter and another chamberlain while her husband oversaw preparations for a celebratory dinner. That night, Meguru joined the rest of the household at the banquet with Banica in her arms. Sitting next to her husband, she waited while the food and new baemu dishes were prepared. Once the cook brought out the dishes, she anxiously watched her husband as he had first taste. After Muzuri confirmed its deliciousness and had the pig served to the other household staff, the exhausted aristocrat watched as everyone else ate.

When her husband told her to try eating the delicious meat, she apologized and insisted she wasn't in the best condition, having no appetite. As Muzuri insisted she have at least a bite, the woman conceded and ate a bite of the cabbage roll. Remarking that it was indeed delicious, she smiled and then intervened when her husband tried to feed some fo Banica, saying that the child could barely open her eyes, let alone eat solid food. As Muzuri moped, she continued, saying Banica only needed breastmilk for now. Meguru then cradled the child affectionately, eventually went to bed along with the baby.

Ten Years of Gula

After learning they contracted Gula from eating the baemu and needed to satiate their hunger for ten years to survive, Meguru became obsessed with their family's survival and her kind demeanor increasingly soured. In EC 302, when her six-year old daughter began to excuse herself from the table while leaving leftovers, Meguru commanded her to eat and stated there should be nothing left. When Banica refused, Meguru repeated the order and began to stuff the dishes into her mouth while the little girl protested. As Ron ran to the two and insisted such wasn't necessary, Meguru continued to try and force the food down her throat, ranting and asking why only this child wasn't suffering like she was.

As the years passed, Meguru continued to grow more aggressive, Banica growing up in fear of her as she directed her anger at the child. When famine struck the region two months prior to the ten year period passing, the food stores quickly depleted; in March of EC 306, Meguru wandered the mansion with Banica in tow, madly looking for food and wondering what to eat. Moaning to her daughter that her stomach was empty, she staggered into the room where Muzuri sat with the corpse of one of the staff. She then mused she'd die if she didn't eat and wondered if there was nothing left, before her eyes fell upon one of the dead servants.

Deciding to eat the corpse, she called loudly if there was a head cook and received no answer; musing she'd just have to do it herself, she staggered to Muzuri and extended her hand, asking for his sword as a replacement for cutlery. When her husband refused, Meguru asked him again to lend it, screaming for him to do so when he continued to protest. She then attacked Muzuri, attempting to take the sword from its sheath; during the attack, her husband drew the sword and slew her with it.

Legacy

Following Meguru's death, only her husband, child, and Ron Grapple survived the incident while Muzuri was stripped of his authority due to the events that had transpired during the previous decade. Due to the abuse she inflicted upon Banica as a child, Meguru's daughter grew obsessed with food to the point of contracting with a demon and abandoning her duties as Duke in pursuit of the ultimate "evil food". Historically, Meguru was recorded to have died of a heart attack.

Meguru was a strong-willed and unyielding woman with a fierce devotion to her family. Sharing a loving relationship with both her husband and daughter, she passively opposed her husband's more quirky decisions while respectful of his whims and was initially protective of Bania's wellbeing. After their household was cursed, the noble became obsessed with survival, trying to keep herself and her husband alive at any cost. However, as time progressed, Meguru grew resentful of her daughter, envious of her ability to choose not to eat. As a result, Meguru's behavior became increasingly aggressive, eventually abusive toward Banica. As they reached the end of the ten year time limit, Meguru completely devolved, willing to even stoop to cannibalism to avoid death.

Skills and Abilities

As a member of the noble Glassred Family, Meguru conducted herself with grace and etiquette. She also demonstrated a great degree of intelligence and common sense. While not a connoisseur like her husband, the aristocrat kept up with fine cuisine. However, due to the curse plaguing their household, Meguru's more refined habits degraded. After years of eating to survive, Meguru was strong enough to physically overpower her also corpulent husband.

Character Connections

Banica Conchita: Meguru's daughter. Meguru loved and cherished Banica on birth, being lovingly affectionate towards her baby girl. Despite this, as she was ravaged by Gula and suffered with the rest of the household Meguru's love turned to spite and rage at the child who was the only one not suffering, often bullying her and forcing her to eat the way the rest of the household did.

Muzuri Conchita: Meguru's husband. Meguru loved Muzuri and happily supported his culinary interests; she also served as his voice of reason during the early years of their marriage when the Duke would get carried away with his love of food. After becoming spiteful and suffering during the Gula plague she became increasingly monstrous towards him as with all other members of the household, eventually attacking Muzuri when seeing him as an obstacle to her survival.

Trivia

Conceptualization and Origin

• Meguru's name is possibly derived from the name of her ancestor's representative Vocaloid, GUMI, containing the "meg" from "Megpoid".
• Her surname is a kenning for a "red glass"; interestingly, the vessel that brought her family to ruin was a red wine glass.
