The Green War is the name given to the conflict between the kingdoms of Lucifenia and Elphegort. Known infamously as the Green Hunting towards its beginning, began as a genocide of the green-haired women in Elphegort by the order of Princess Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche.

History

Origins

After the death of his father in EC 494, Kyle Marlon, was crowned sovereign of the Kingdom of Marlon and later became acquainted with Princess Riliane Lucifen d'Autriche of the Kingdom of Lucifenia. Due to political affairs, it was determined by their parents that they were to be betrothed and married when the princess turned fifteen. As they became good childhood friends, Princess Riliane developed strong romantic feelings for the Marlon King. However despite this, King Kyle viewed and cared for Princess Riliane as sister, holding only platonic feelings for her.

During one of his visits to the Freesis mansion, he met a beautiful green-haired maiden by the name Michaela who worked as a servant for the family. Soon the Marlon King fell madly in love with the young maiden for her appearance and angelic voice, to the point of willing to abandon his duties and run away with her. King Kyle later gave a letter to Prime Minister Minis Stoup of Lucifenia to be sent to Princess Riliane, explaining how he was withdrawing from his engagement with the princess and has chosen a 'green-haired girl' instead.

Deeply hurt and enraged by her bethrothed rejection, Princess Riliane ordered investigations to be made in order to discover the identity of the girl, only to be informed that the only information concerning her was that she has green hair. Princess Riliane then ordered the Prime Minister to invade Elphegort and slaughter all green-haired women to guarantee the girl's death, her rage and jealousy sparking the Green War.

Green War

Lucifenian soldiers were readied and preparations for war were made that night. With Lucifenia and Elphegort separated by the Millennium Tree Forest, it was impossible to cross through the deep forest in order to invade the "Green Country" and it was commanded that the soldiers were to set the forest ablaze, since the town was too narrow for an army pass through. The Lucifenian Army invaded Elphegort and began the "Green Hunting" despite Gumillia and Elluka's efforts in creating rainstorms to prevent the blaze from completely destroying the Millennium Tree Forest along with the Lucifenian Resistance opposing the army, however the Lucifenian Army persisted, sucessfully invading Elphegort and killed countless green-haired women.

The green-haired maiden later fled into the forest where she was pursued by Lucifenian soldiers, hiding inside an abandoned well for shelter. Her whereabouts are soon found out and Michaela dies at the hands of a 'golden-haired asassian' from a chest wound. A week later, King Kyle sets out to rescue his beloved from Princess Riliane's genocide of the green-haired populace upon learning her location, only to find his beloved dead inside the well. After he cries for the loss of a loved one, he heads out and joins the Lucifenian Resistance, donning a mask and offered the resistance help under the alias Kachees.

King Kyle continued to supply the resistance with Marlon soldiers, in effort to strengthen their army, along with membership increasing rapidly due to the anger of Lucifenian and Elphegort citizens because of the Green War. Soon the resistance came in contact with Keel Freesis and were able to negotiate a deal with the merchant, using the Freesis Firm to help supply the revolutionary army with weapons and artillery. With the new found support the Lucifenian Resistance became well-armed and supplied for war, their goal to overthrow their corrupt government and the Daughter of Evil having a high advantage. The resistance then raided the Royal Palace and began several weeks of fighting, able to defeat the Royal Guard due to a tremendous amount of Lucifenian soldiers being deployed in Elphegort, leaving the palace without reinforcements and the princess was captured.

Aftermath

Even after the intended target was killed, the war dragged on and the Lucifenian Army continued warring with the Elphegort Military. With the fall of "The Daughter of Evil", the Green War was concluded and the fighting died down. The Elphegort Military was left in shambles since the military was notably weak compared to Lucifenia's army, only used for self-defense and not prepared for surprise attacks. Peace talks were established by King Sohni Elpen, Marlon and the Lucifenian Resistance pertaining to what was to be done to Lucifenian soldiers that participated in the Green War. All of the Lucifenian soldiers that were imprisoned in Elphegort were executed, to appease the people depsite the call for amnesty, along with Lucifenia being incorporated as a Marlon principality.

Civilian Perception

The vast majority of Lucifenian citizens heavily criticized Princess Riliane's actions and disapproved of her tyrannical reign, voicing their objections to her commands due to mass poverty and starvation. Due to foreign aid to relieve the food shortage across the Kingdom, the population grew eased. Following the Green War, the population's rage for the princess grew in numbers and the Green War became rapidly unpopular. Elphegort citizens grew contempt of Lucifenian soldiers and openly hated Princess Riliane, the war causing years of friction between the two kingdoms.
