Levianta

Levianta,[note 1] otherwise known as Holy Levianta,[note 2] was a state in the Bolganio continent's Evillious region, formed on the site of the former Magic Kingdom Levianta centuries after its destruction. This new state was the spiritual headquarters for the Levin Church. Centuries later, it became part of the Union State of Evillious.

History[]

Early History[]

In EC 013, the Magic Kingdom Levianta, which had reigned as the seat of technology and magical power since early Evillious history, was destroyed by the dragon body of Levia-Behemo in the Levianta Catastrophe.[1] Devastated by the event, the land was rendered uninhabitable for centuries;[2] with ethnic Leviantans few and far between, the culture and history of the Magic Kingdom faded into obscurity.[3]

In EC 301, the land was resettled with a national construction aimed at rebuilding the once great kingdom.[4] Called "Holy Levianta", the new nation became the center of the Levin Church and acted as the faith's headquarters. At some point, the nation made an alliance with the neighboring Kingdom of Elphegort. After the Kingdom of Lucifenia invaded Elphegort in EC 500, Levianta requested the Yellow Country stand down. Although ignored, the religious capital remained uninvolved in the conflict.[5]

In EC 508, conflict between factions within the church led to numerous terrorist strikes by Neo Apocalypse. As the group attempted to bring about the fall of the church, the nation petitioned other countries to assist in their efforts to suppress the terrorists. Lucifenia sent them a single unit and the attacks were quelled later that year.[6] Afterward, the Levin Church's influence with its followers began to gradually decrease.[7]

After some negotiation with the Freezis Foundation, the Evillious nations all agreed to the establishment of the World Police organization in EC 573.[8] In September, EC 609, Levianta imported 90% of the Freezis Fishery Association's abundant Ziz Tiama catch.[9] By the EC 840s, Holy Levianta shifted it from a religious government to an imperial government under the Musubi dynasty. Over the following decades, Levianta began discussing with other Evillious nationals about creating a unified state to compete with the United States of Maistia.[7]

Union State of Evillious[]

Following the Aishikeru Treaty, Levianta joined Marlon, Lucifenia and Elphegort as part of the Union State of Evillious in EC 878.[4] At some point, a zombie epidemic broke out across Evillious, affecting Levianta.[10] In January of EC 982, Levianta sought an alliance with Elphegort to check on Lucifenia; the USE later consented to the alliance. After Asmodean declared war on Lucifenia, Levianta accepted Lucifenia's request for help and declared war on Asmodean. Later that year, Beelzenia declared war on Levianta among other countries.[11]

The following year in EC 983, General Tony Ausdin massacred the village of Zenosai in the Samadin region. After the man was exonerated by Judge Gallerian Marlon, revolts broke out in Alicegrad before spreading across Levianta.[11] After Elphegort invaded Lucifenia in EC 993 and was expelled from the USE, Levianta declared war on the nation. With Marlon's cooperation, Holy Levianta launched a two-pronged siege on Elphegort. In EC 998, the USE army succeeded in liberating Lucifenia.[12]

World's End[]

In EC 999, Levianta was completely decimated by Punishment. Following the end of the Third Period, the destruction site merged with the Hellish Yard along with the rest of the ground world.[13]

Government and Politics[]

Power Structure[]

By the 9th century EC, if earlier, Holy Levianta had a bureaucratic government. Following the formation of the Union State of Evillious, Holy Levianta formed a joint government in cooperation with other countries in the union. Like all countries in Evillious, Holy Levianta's politics also became increasingly influenced by the powerful Freezis Conglomerate.[14] Due to the country's association with the Levin faith, the scripture of the Levin Bible was closely related to its code of law.[15]

In the 9th century EC, the country was ruled by an imperial government.[7] Around that time, the Dark Star Bureau was established as well, as part of the country's judicial system, with the courthouse in Alicegrad conducting trials not only across Levianta, but from across all the other countries in the Union State of Evillious.[14] The courthouse later on established a separate, private police force in competition with the World Police to investigate criminal offenses.[16] The bureau became susceptible to corruption and bribery, despite attempts at reform, sparking violent political unrest.[11]

Military[]

Early into its establishment, the Leviantan military was weak and corrupt, unwilling to move troops into foreign territory except in self-defense,[5] and susceptible to bribery.[17] In later years, the Leviantan military became more formidable, to a point that in the Great War it was able to liberate Lucifenia from Elphegort. Though, like many aspects of Holy Levianta's government, it was prone to corruption and lack of accountability.[11]

Economy[]

Following the founding of Holy Levianta, tourism to the local temples became popular.[18] Due to its use as a cooking ingredient, the nation also imported a large amount of ziz tiama over the centuries.[9] Following the Lucifenian Revolution, Levianta, presumably among other countries, saw the advent of restaurants that served food to the public, first opened by former Lucifenian Royal Palace cooks.[19]

Automobiles were invented in the nation during the EC 860s and were available for public use,[15] in addition to airplanes,[19] radios,[20] and other new technologies. Holy Levianta similarly had a movie culture in later centuries due to the invention of the cinema.[15] The nation's economy was also largely influenced by the Freezis Conglomerate; during the mid EC 900s, however, the Freezis Conglomerate began to lose its foothold in Evillious and was increasingly replaced by the Yarera-Zusco Firm.[16]

Society and Culture[]

After the destroyed country was rebuilt as Holy Levianta, the nation repopulated from the wasteland it once was, though culturally it differed significantly from the previous Levianta and it is unknown how many surviving Leviantans comprised this new population.[2] Due to the founding of Levin University, Levianta's cultural exchange grew by the EC 960s.[14]

Despite this, the importance of religion from the previous society continued with the creation of Holy Levianta, becoming the religious capital for the Levin Church.[21] As a result, Holy Levianta was heavily influenced by Levin. The country also contained remnants of the Magic Kingdom's culture, such as the use of ziz tiama, albeit as a food rather than as a magic tool.[9] They also retained knowledge of Inheritors as part of their understanding of the culture that came before.[22] By the mid-900s EC, however, the country was swept with a wave of anti-magical sentiment due to the chaotic and bizarre events of the period, for a time sparking Levianta Witch Trials that harshly persecuted alleged witches.[10]

Due to being a religious country, Holy Levianta's culture was somewhat exclusionary and oppressive towards other Levin denominations, such as the Meta sect.[9] Despite this, the establishment of the USE and the founding of Levin University led to increased cultural exchange due to the inflow of foreign students.[14]

Geography and Climate[]

Though originally a burned wasteland after the Catastrophe, eventually, the area became hospitable again and it was made possible to resettle.[4] Levianta was a northern region of Evillious, located directly above Lucifenia and Asmodean. The climate was therefore much cooler and would snow during cold weather.[17] Compounding this, the nation experienced long winters and short summers.[14] In the wake of the Magic Kingdom's destruction, much of their ruins remained, stretching as far as Asmodean.[23]
