Levianta

Levianta[1], once regarded as the great Magic Kingdom Levianta, was a state in the Bolganio continent's Evillious region. Centuries after its destruction, it was rebuilt as the nation of Divine Levianta and became the spiritual headquarters for the Levin religion. Centuries later, it became part of the Union State of Evillious.

History

Early History

Early in the Third Period, many humans began gathering around the ark-shaped relic, Sin, and eventually settled as the country of Levianta.[2] With the twin gods Levia-Behemo worshiped as their deities, the Leviantans sealed the device in a temple,[3] forbidden to ever be used. Over time, the new kingdom became among the most magically and technologically advanced nation in Evillious. After the nation of Heldogort broke off from the kingdom, worshipping the dragon god Held in its pantheon, the Magic Kingdom Levianta severely repressed its neighboring country.[4]

Prophesized Destruction

Several years before EC 0, the ruler of the time, Maria Moonlit, predicted that Sin would lead to the country's destruction and that only the twin gods could purify it if they were reincarnated as humans. In reaction to this, the Leviantan Senate created Project 'Ma' to artificially produce the twin gods' human incarnations, directed by Adam Moonlit. Hoping to become the nation's next ruler, many rushed to the Royal Institution to be admitted to the project. However, a powerful sorceress was required to pass and those that were tested failed. Finally, Adam's lover, Eve Zvezda, passed the test admirably and was selected as a candidate for treatment, conceiving twins. However, they were stillborn and Adam and Eve fled.

Seth Twiright took over the project and selected Meta Salmhofer to replace the fugitive Eve, admitting her to the project. She conceived the twins, Hänsel and Gretel, and later successfully gave birth to them. Their birth marked the first year EC and sparked celebration in the Magic Kingdom. Meta, however, fled with the twins and escaped, leaving both projects as failures. In the following years, new projects were established but either failed or were suspended. In EC 013, the Senate selected four potentials candidates for the project.[5] Ultimately, Irina Clockworker was selected to become the new Ma after the other three candidates had been killed. Soon after, Kiril Clockworker infiltrated the temple and placed his lover, Elluka Chirclatia, within the device, attempting to resurrect her. As a result, the device went out of control and caused a huge explosion, bringing about the downfall of the kingdom and heavily affected its neighboring countries.[6]

Divine Levianta

Following the catastrophe, the great kingdom ceased to exist and was left as a wasteland. In EC 301, the land was resettled with a national construction aimed at rebuilding the once great kingdom.[7] Called "Divine Levianta", the new nation became the center of the Great Levin Church and acted as the faith's headquarters. At some point, the nation made an alliance with neighboring Kingdom of Elphegort. During the Green Hunting in EC 500, Levianta answered their ally's call for aid. However, their army was decimated by the Kingdom of Lucifenia's forces and retreated and their government backed down from sending reinforcements to Elphegort, claiming their army was only for their own self defense.[8]

In EC 508, conflict between factions within the church led to numerous terrorist strikes by Neo Apocalypse. As the group attempted to bring about the fall of the church, the nation petitioned other countries to assist in their efforts to suppress the terrorists. Lucifenia sent them a single unit and, with their assistance, quelled the attacks during the "New Four Horsemen Incident" caused by them. Levianta was later incorporated into the Union State of Evillious in EC 878.[9] A revolt broke out in EC 983 due to the exoneration of General Tony Ausdin by Judge Gallerian Marlon and led to their deaths.[10]

Government and Politics

The great Magic Kingdom was a constitutional monarchy, with the ruler of the government restrained by that of the senate. With the senate's consensus, the ruler could be removed from power and replaced, with the senators managing the nation's affairs and casting judgement until a new ruler was appointed to take their place.[11] The senate was also capable of sanctioning research projects when needed, with many researchers involved in the study of magic and medicine.[12]

Military

The magic kingdom had a capable military, able to find and capture Meta Salmhofer, a powerful witch. Their actions were overseen by that of the senate and carried out to their wishes.[13] Following the Magic Kingdom's destruction, the military was abolished and later reestablished with creation of Divine Levianta centuries later. However, the new Leviantan military was weak and corrupt, incapable of defeating the aggressive soldiers of the Kingdom of Lucifenia and only large enough to defend their own territories[14] and susceptible to bribery.[15]

Society and Culture

The Magic Kingdom was built upon its great magical and technological prowess, remembered for its legendary abundance of magical talent.[16] Because of this, magic held a great importance in their society and only those with the strongest magical capabilities were considered eligible for the nation's projects or to be chosen as the kingdom's ruler.[17] This magical elitism extended so far as to tear apart families and close friends over proving who was stronger.[18]

The nation also had a noble class with aristocrats having a great influence in the political affairs of the Magic Kingdom, particularly because of their affluence.[19] Racially, Leviantans are a diverse people, with many different characteristics found among them. Despite this, the vast population of mages were regarded as being extremely beautiful even a century after the original kingdom fell. After Levianta's destruction, several Leviantans survived although it is unknown whether or not they died out in the following centuries.[20] After the destroyed country was rebuilt as Divine Levianta, the nation repopulated.[21]

Founded around Sin, the precepts and ideas of Levin were deeply rooted in Leviantan culture, with the gods Levia and Behemo considered the absolute twin deities to be worshipped.[22] This religious zeal led to the intense persecution of followers of Held in Heldohgort and the dragon god being labeled as an evil god.[23] The importance of religion continued with the creation of Divine Levianta, becoming the religious capital for the Great Levin Church.[24] Similarly, fear of those with Hereditary Evil Raiser Syndrome led to a strong feeling of pessmism, as both Ghoul Children and the rapidly growing number of HERs led to belief in the country's foretold destruction.[25]

Geography and Climate

Levianta was a northern region of Evillious, located directly above Lucifenia and Asmodean. Originally, the Magic Kingdom consisted of flora and fauna but, following the catastrophe, became a barren wasteland and was inhospitable. The climate was also much cooler and would snow during cold weather.[26] In the wake of the Magic Kingdom's destruction, much of their ruins remained, stretching as far as Asmodean.[27] Eventually, the area became hospitable again and it was made possible to resettle.[28]
