Plot
Plot
The song concerns the guardian of the titular clocktower, whose role it is to keep the gears going to keep the Clockworker's Doll alive; he muses about the tower's previous master, the embodiment of Greed, had brought himself to ruin and left only the doll behind with burn marks. After the text describes the "Collector" who created a theater for his the "collectibles", Gear watches the Master of the Graveyard and the pretentious servant girl going about their daily activities; the PV notes how the tower seemed to come alive singing one day.

The bloodstained scissors and the purple sword remain dormant among the vessels of sin, Utopia still unable to be created. Realizing that the clock has broken down and that the Doll's time is running short, Gear takes out his heart and sacrifices himself to power the clocktower in fulfillment of his role. At the end of the PV, the text describes how the one who built the theater loved the Clockwork Doll the most, and that now someone else had the leading part.

"Just before his death a solitary man created that small theater deep in the forest."
―Gear[src]

Heartbeat Clocktower is a song released by Akuno-P on October 1, 2009 and later uploaded with a PV on April 25, 2010. It is the fifth song in the Clockwork Lullaby Series, describing the experiences of Gear in Evil's Theater.

Plot

The song concerns the guardian of the titular clocktower, whose role it is to keep the gears going to keep the Clockworker's Doll alive; he muses about the tower's previous master, the embodiment of Greed, had brought himself to ruin and left only the doll behind with burn marks. After the text describes the "Collector" who created a theater for his "collectibles", Gear watches the Master of the Graveyard and the pretentious servant girl going about their daily activities; the PV notes how the tower seemed to come alive singing one day.

The bloodstained scissors and the purple sword remain dormant among the vessels of sin, Utopia still unable to be created. Realizing that the clock has broken down and that the Doll's time is running short, Gear takes out his heart and sacrifices himself to power the clocktower in fulfillment of his role. At the end of the PV, the text describes how the one who built the theater loved the Clockwork Doll the most, saying that someone has the leading part.

Lyrics

The sound of the clocktower’s gears
That is the proof she’s alive
So that this second hand doesn’t stop
Watching over it is “my” role

The former master, a personification of greed
Why couldn’t he notice sooner
That his own sin would ruin himself
One of these days?

The ugly burn marks that remain on half of her body even now
Etch those two’s memories

Today again there are lost
Pitiful visitors who don’t know anything
Before long they’ll probably be delivered
Into the “Master of the Graveyard”’s stomach

That “girl” pretending to be the lead role
As usual is absorbing herself in selfishness
While the loneliness of having lost her “counterpart”
Shows a little on her face

Just before his death a solitary man created
That small theater deep in the forest
In that time when it was left behind, it began to ring out
The clockwork lullaby

“Bloodstained scissors”, “Violet katana”
The days we wait for those who have yet to wake
When all the songs have been recited
It appears Utopia will complete

The clock hand stopping
Means the end of herself
The time left in the rusted and chipped gears
Isn’t long

Just before his death a solitary man created
A small theater deep in the forest
The one acting as curator is the one he loved most
“The Clockwork Doll”

Resolving myself
I gently placed my hand
Into my own left breast and reached in deeply…

My spring resounds with the gears of the clocktower
And the story begins anew
So that the clock hands don’t stop
Continuing to turn is my role

A solitary man, the ‘Collector’
Created just before his death
A small, small theater.

There was only one work that he screened
Just a documentary introducing his “collection”

When that theater inside the forest
Was completely forgotten by everyone

The springs start to move
A singing voice rings out

The “collection” pieces, with their own hands
Begin to make a new story

Pride
Gluttony
Envy
Lust
Greed
Sloth
Wrath

Hellish Yard Heavenly Yard

In the small, small theatre
The one acting as curator,
Is the one he loved most in his lifetime,
“The Clockwork Doll”

And the lead role is…

Trivia

Conceptualization and Origin

 • The song's title alludes to Gear's sacrifice of connecting his heart to the clocktower, letting his heartbeat power it and keep the Clockworker's Doll alive.
 • The song shares a motif with Miniature Garden Girl.

Curiosities

 • During the song PV, the Seven Deadly Sins are represented by gears colored with the respective sin's color; the teal gear representing the Sloth spins at a slower pace than the others, while the one representing Wrath falls at the edge of the screen during the song's opening sequence.
 • The song was rearranged by mothy to promote the The Daughter of Evil: Praefacio of Blue, titled Handbeat Clocktower; the song's PV also uses imagery of the gear.
 • During the song's "Lu Li La" chorus, the images of the vessel owners followed by the Latin name for their respective sin appear translucent over Hänsel and Gretel; at the end of the sequence, the names of the Four Endings appear in the four corners of the song PV.
 • The seven vessel owners' order of appearance in the PV follows the release order of their respective songs.
 • In the Clockwork Lullaby album, Kiril Clockworker puzzles over Adam's assistance of Irina Clockworker, deciding to look into the relationship between the two.[1]
