Gasto[1] was a city in the Beelzenian Empire and the residence of one of the Five Dukes. Originally part of the Retasan territory, it later became part of the Conchita territory following a split. With the disappearance of Duke Banica, the town was merged with Rucolebeni before fading into ruin and obscurity.

Early History

Built along the mountainside as part of the Beelzenian Empire, Gasto was made part of the Retasan territory in the east. Around that time, the territory was placed under the jurisdiction of the Gastolle Dukes and the family moved into the city. After the death of one of the dukes during the Asmodean civil war around EC 212, the Retasan territory was split; along with the rest of the eastern territory, Gasto became part of the new Conchita territory, with Duke Tetippea and his family settling in a mansion atop the mountain.[2]

In EC 296, Duke Muzuri implemented harsh taxes on the territory and burdened Gasto and the other towns. Around March of EC 306, a harsh famine erupted throughout the territory as a result of the heavy taxation, prompting Empress Juno to strip Muzuri of his control over Gasto and the rest of the territory. After Muzuri's death in August, EC 321, his daughter, Gourmet Noble Banica, was selected as his successor.[3]

Afterwards, rumors began spreading through the town and the rest of the territory of Banica's eating habits and voracious appetite. After Banica's mysterious recovery from illness in July of EC 323,[4] the Duke locked herself in her mansion, refusing to meet with anyone on account of her illness by November, EC 324. With imperial messengers sent to her manor not returning throughout EC 325, the Empire dispatched the Beelzenian army to invade Gasto.

During the assault on Banica's mansion, the army was attacked by Banica's undead army and largely slaughtered. With the undead horde unleashed upon the territory, Gasto became one of the many towns ravaged by the corpse soldiers, left in total anarchy.[5] The attacks later ended around August of that year and Banica and her staff were discovered missing from the mansion.[6]

Decline into Ruin

Afterwards, with the Conchita territory incorporated as part of the Beelzenias region, Gasto was merged with the capital city of Rucolebeni and placed under the jurisdiction of the imperial family. As the Empire began to decline in the following centuries, Gasto eventually became abandoned and was left in ruins. In EC 505, Yukina Freezis visited the site of the Conchita Mansion through Beelzenia before meeting up with the imperial adviser, Gumillia, and leaving the ruins.[7]

World's End

In EC 999, Gasto was completely decimated by Punishment. Following the end of the Third Period and its subsequent merging with the Hellish Yard,[8] Banica Conchita created an illusion of her mansion as her residence.[9]

Conchita Mansion

The abode of the Conchita family, located atop a mountain in a city south of Rucolebeni. Following the disappearance of Banica Conchita, the mansion, like the city, was abandoned and fell into disarray, becoming an old ruin by the 6th century EC.[10]
