- ―Gallerian Marlon[src]
Gallerian Marlon was the Director of the USE Dark Star Bureau and the perpetrator of the Dark Star Scandal. Devastated after an accident killed his wife and daughter, Gallerian agreed to help Ma collect the vessels of sin to save his "child" and forged a contract with Adam Moonlit. Accepting bribes to save the guilty and convict the innocent, the judge eventually collected many of the vessels of sin, storing them in a theater he constructed in the Millennium Tree Forest.

In EC 944, Gallerian was born to Gandalf Marlon and Elluka "Ma" Clockworker. Growing up a member of the Marlon Family, Gallerian learned from his grieving father that his mother had been executed after being unjustly tried for witchcraft. He also, as he grew older, began to notice that he was being followed by a bat. Not certain of what the bat was or why it followed him, he ignored it.
Later on, Gallerian was accepted into Levin University, barely able to pay his tuition. He then began excelling in his studies, becoming the brightest student in his class and becoming roommates with Tony Ausdin. He later met and befriended Loki Freezis, bonding with the young man over their apparent common ancestor. At some point, he began boarding at his childhood wet nurse Polina Marchef's mansion.
In EC 958, Gallerian and nine other students went on a field trip to the Dark Star Courthouse and observed the trial of an accused witch Lana Ray, Gallerian becoming surprised at the mention of his mother's name during the trial. After the court was adjourned, Gallerian walked out of the courthouse with Loki and they discussed the trial, both certain that Lana would receive a guilty verdict. As they talked, Loki asked Gallerian why he wanted to become a judge specifically, arguing he should become a bureaucrat instead.
Gallerian replied that his Marlon lineage would make it difficult for him to excel in the government due to the Viwirtz family's influence. He furthermore claimed he had wanted to be a judge for a long time, and questioned Loki about his own reasons for becoming a judge. The two continued to talk for some time, bantering until briefly discussing the witch trials. After Loki speculated that it was his mission to exterminate the so-called witches, regardless of whether or not they were responsible for the strange happenings in the world, they continued joking and talking on the way home.
Several months later, Gallerian passed the government entrance exam and became employed at the Dark Star Bureau. The night after his graduation ceremony, he attended the graduation party at the Asayev mansion, where Tony Ausdin approached him. As Gallerian brushed off his congratulations, the two of them then discussed Tony's future as a general, despite Tony being a pacifist. The two discussed how the USE had managed to reduce the number of wars, and how Tony was frustrated with having been born into a military family, until Gallerian asked him if he'd sabotaged his graduation to avoid becoming a soldier.
When the flustered Tony left, Gallerian was approached by Loki, who invited him to go on a hunting trip in Marlon. As Gallerian declined, the two were joined by Loki's girlfriend Mira, who explained that she wasn't allowed to go because of her brother's opposition to their relationship. The three discussed Gallerian's strangely youthful appearance, with Loki musing it must have been because of his lineage to Prim Marlon, and continued chatting and having fun during the party.
Pursuing the Playwright
As time went on, Gallerian quickly rose through the ranks of the Dark Star Bureau, becoming a seventh class senior judge by EC 960. During this time, Gallerian worked as an aide for the bureau's deputy head during a trial, saving him from making a major blunder by making a comment. Later on, he gave a lecture on law and biblical scripture, attended by Mira; following the lecture, he and Mira chatted until Loki barged in and instructed her to stop talking to Gallerian. After he left, Mira confided to Gallerian about Loki's jealousy and her feeling of confinement in the relationship. When she invited him to eat with her, Gallerian declined for a number of reasons. Not long after Loki called for Mira from a distance and caused her to leave.
Later that night, Gallerian looked over some case files in preparation of his first trial, the ELL84 case. Seeing a picture of the accused, Kayo Sudou, Gallerian was startled and called in his former wet nurse, Polina, having her identify that Kayo looked identical to his mother. As they discussed the possibility that they were the same person, Polina noted that Elluka would have to look older and speculated, before dismissing the idea, that Kayo changed her appearance to match Elluka's due to being her follower. Gallerian quickly made her promise not to tell anyone she saw the photo, before Polina bid him to get some rest.
One week later, Gallerian presided over the ELL84 trial, with Kayo representing herself for the defense. During the trial, Kayo denied using magic and having murderous intent. During the lunch break, Gallerian was joined by Loki and the two got to discussing the trial so far, with Gallerian almost unnerved by how composed Kayo was. Gallerian then began arguing with Loki about how the outcome of the trial was already decided, objecting to the reasoning that each witch trial must end in a guilty verdict as long as the strange phenomena continued. Loki also invited him again to go hunting with him in Levianta over their break.
Resuming the trial, Gallerian declared Kayo innocent, causing the court to go into an uproar. As he argued with the prosecutor about his reasoning, Gallerian ordered to have the enraged man thrown out. Although the other security guards didn't move, one fulfilled the order and Gallerian was surprised to find it was his friend, Tony Ausdin. Later on, Hanma called Gallerian to his office and questioned him on his finding Kayo innocent. Gallerian explained his reasoning that it would be useful to recruit someone knowledgeable about witches since they knew so little, and that he could possibly gain Kayo's favor as Elluka's son. Although Hanma approved of the idea, he nonetheless gave him a 30 day suspension as ostensible punishment.
Gallerian then told the passing Loki about his suspension, comforted by his friend and asked to go hunting with him the following day in Pixie. Seeing the opportunity to get to Kayo, who claimed to be living there, Gallerian agreed to the invitation. He later met with Loki on the road outside Alicegrad, and was introduced to Loki's butler, the former slave Bruno Zero. He was quickly bewildered and shocked by Loki's cruel behavior towards Bruno, whom he learned was a Black Valkyrian native to Maistia, although nonetheless the three went into Loki's car to drive to Pixie.
A Front Man
Around noon, a snowstorm began, causing the car engine to stall. As further complications occurred, the unperturbed Loki gradually revealed to Gallerian that, in their hunting trip, Gallerian himself was the intended prey. Loki then pursued Gallerian with his gun, hunting him like an animal across the snow fields and ranting about how frustrated he was with Gallerian surpassing him with his excellence. As the exhausted Gallerian spotted something in the distance, he ran towards it only to be shot and rendered unconscious.
Gallerian later awoke, confused, in Lunaca Labora. When a white-haired girl, Shiro Netsuma entered, Gallerian pressed her for answers, only met with her constant apologizing. Another woman then entered along with a tiger, the woman introducing herself as Hel Jaakko and explaining that Shiro was timid when not holding a gun, as well as that Bruno had called her there. As Gallerian continued demanding answers, he learned from Hel that he'd been given an advanced medical treatment and that Shiro had shot him, without killing him, in order to save his life.
Beginning to lose his composure, Gallerian was suddenly chided by the tiger for doing so; the tiger introduced himself as Feng Li and explained he was actually a human with the appearance of a tiger. Gallerian then asked Hel to continue and learned from her that he was currently in Lunaca Labora, a location sought after by her father. Bruno then entered the laboratory, telling Gallerian to ask the owner if he wanted more answers. After Gallerian asked why he saved him, Bruno asked in turn he wanted revenge on Loki, offering to help kill him.
Gallerian declined, stating he simply wanted to have Loki judged in court, and learned from Bruno that this was what they had expected of him as a potential "front man" to their organization. Gallerian expressed his refusal to join them before eventually relenting. Bruno told him that Loki spread the lie that Gallerian had died in a hunting accident, and further that if Gallerian returned to the public the Freezis Conglomerate would make efforts to prevent Loki from being charged. Frustrated, Gallerian soon realized that Bruno's counter-offer was for him to join them, and that the owner of Lunaca Labora had chosen him for this.
A person in a postman's uniform, addressed as Postman, soon entered and was made to fetch the owner. Soon after, Kayo entered, having lied about where she was living and Lunaca Labora being one of her true residences. After Gallerian learned more of the history of the laboratory from her, he tried to discuss how she had this magical knowledge and she soon directed him instead on the topic of Loki. Ma came to explain how the Freezis Family on the whole had become corrupt and betrayed Elluka with the witch hunts, saying that the members of their group were all former Freezis employees and that Loki himself was an HER.
Although at a loss, Gallerian decided to ally with this group to take down his former friend. Expressing this to Kayo, she requested that he call her "Ma" when possible. Having officially become a member of PN, Gallerian continued staying at Lunaca Labora to recover from his injuries. In the meantime, he began plotting with the others to have Loki convicted of his crimes.
Farewell to a Friend
Gallerian later met with Mira at the ruined site of the Levia-Behemo temple. After greeting each other, Mira apologized for not being able to stop Loki's plan, and the two discussed how they each felt about Loki after having learned the truth. After comforting each other, Gallerian requested for Mira to introduce him to her older brother, Gusuma Yarera. With Ma, he visited Gusuma at the Yarera Conglomerate's headquarters and explained how he wished for the Yareras to help get Loki convicted for his crimes with a bribe.
To get the approval of the Yarera family head, whom would be able to give them the money, they planned to arrange for the release of her adopted son, the serial killer Jorm Zusco, with another bribe. As they left, Ma mentioned how Hel would deliver the bribe and Gallerian fell to asking about Hel and then Bruno, receiving no answers from Ma on the latter. While arrangements were being made, Gallerian recuperated in Lunaca Labora, occasionally visited by Mira. During their visits, the two struck up an affair and Gallerian impregnated her.
On one occasion, Mira came to make Gallerian food while he worked on compiling all PN's knowledge of the Freezis family. When Bruno came to visit, the two got into an argument about him trusting her, until their conversation turned to Gallerian's compilation of their evidence. Gallerian then questioned Bruno on his history with the Freezises and learned how they killed his entire family. Bruno then told him about him meeting the other members of PN, before Gallerian moved on to discuss their plans to get Loki convicted.
A year after Gallerian was almost murdered, he attended Loki's trial and watched as the presiding judge, Hanma, sentenced him to thirty years imprisonment, leaving Gallerian conflicted to see his former friend tried guilty. Afterwards, he returned to work and married Mira. Not long after, Bruno visited him in his mansion to congratulate him and Gallerian chatted with him about his plans to continue reforming the witch trials and taking down the Freezises. As he planned to hire a servant to help take care of Mira and their new baby, Bruno offered and Gallerian accepted.
Their conversation then turned to Mira and Loki, Gallerian somber about losing his friend and hoping he could start over with him in thirty years. He then drew up the paperwork to employ Bruno, and afterwards Bruno excused himself to make a phone call. Later, Gallerian heard that Loki had been killed in his cell, allegedly a suicide, and was grieved by the news. Over the next two years, with Ma as his magical adviser Gallerian began reforming the witch trials and tried every new defendant innocent of witchcraft. His marriage with Mira also began to grow turbulent.
Business with Ma
One day after work, Gallerian arrived home and was greeted by Bruno; after checking on his now two-year-old daughter Michelle, he encountered Mira. Learning she was hiring another servant to take care of Michelle, Gallerian began arguing with his wife until Bruno cut them off. He soon announced he was having a meeting with Ma about an upcoming trial; as Mira stormed off, Gallerian reassured Bruno about him getting close to Ma and went to eat supper.
Later, on the night of his twentieth birthday, Gallerian met with Ma at the bar and inn that she was staying in. After their dinner, he started chatting with her about how much he had learned about magic thanks to her. When Ma ordered a bottle of Blood Grave to celebrate Gallerian's twentieth birthday, he was shocked and opened up about how terribly things were going with Mira, who hadn't even remembered, and how he couldn't even divorce her for Michelle's sake. When the Blood Grave arrived, Gallerian got drunk on it and Ma helped him up to her room. While she tended to him, Gallerian grabbed Ma and kissed her.
After they slept together that night, the two carried on an affair for the next half-year. Afterwards, Ma disappeared without warning and Hanma fled the country; for the next fourteen years, Gallerian continued to rise through the ranks in the USE Dark Star Bureau, eventually replacing Hanma as head judge. During this time, the organization "Police Neutrality" was formed of former PN members in opposition to the World Police, and Gallerian had hired three more servants in addition to Bruno. As Michelle grew, smart and kind, Gallerian devoted his energies into being a loving father for her.
One day in EC 978, while Bruno aided Gallerian with his work, the two were visited by Tony and Shiro, come to request that he get them Ma's help in dealing with undead soldiers plaguing the USE army. Although Gallerian tried to explain he hadn't contacted Ma in years, at that moment they received a letter from Ma asking him to meet her in the Misty Mountains. Gallerian, Bruno, Shiro, and Tony then drove up to the mountains; they were led by Postman to Ma, and Gallerian confronted her on her sudden disappearance.
As Ma gave lackadaisical answers to their questions, she explained how she wanted them to help her move several rare books she'd collected from the mountain in their car. With Postman, Tony, and Shiro going down the mountain some other way, Gallerian went back to the car while Bruno helped carry Ma's books. Sometime after returning home, Gallerian spoke with Michelle in their living room while she told them about the trip she and Mira would be making to visit their grandfather in Marlon. They were interrupted from their chat by Ma, who came to visit.
Gallerian stood by while Ma met properly with Michelle, noting how the sorceress hadn't changed in fourteen years. Ma then requested that Gallerian be her sponsor for a film adaptation of "The Daughter of Evil", specifically a "secret" addition that Yukina Freezis wrote which hadn't been adapted yet. Hearing it spoke about undead soldiers and Elluka Clockworker in relation to his mother, Gallerian agreed to read the book before talking about sponsorship.
- "I don't need any 'Vessel of Deadly Sin'."
"Yes... Is that so?"
- ―Gallerian and Ma[src]
The day before his family was scheduled to return home, Gallerian finished reading Yukina Freezis' tale about the conspiracy surrounding Princess Riliane and the Marlon Royal Family caused by the vessels of sin. Upon finishing the book he was visited by Ma, who asked his opinion on it. Gallerian admitted the novel was very different from the Freezis Fairy Tale he was familiar with, continuing to be skeptical even as Ma insisted it was the truth.
After asking her about her desired film adaptation, Gallerian ended up declining being her sponsor, unwilling to fund such a project despite his interest in movies. Offended, Ma made vague threats regarding the fact that Gallerian's wife was returning to the mansion the next day, which Gallerian initially mistook to mean she planned to expose their past affair.
After she refuted his accusation of this, Gallerian attempted to break the unpleasant atmosphere by asking for a rough idea of what happened with the characters afterward, discussing with Ma the characters of Elluka Clockworker, Gumillia, and Germaine Avadonia who had appeared in the book. As the doubtful judge pondered Ma's input, he asked why Abyss I.R. had been collecting the vessels of sin, interested to hear the claim that collecting them all granted the collector any wish.
Ma then suggested they look for the artifacts together. Gallerian declined due to the potential costs involved, saying he didn't need them. As Ma left, Gallerian once more insisted that she not tell his wife about their relationship. Ma parted with the request that he let her know if he changed his mind about collecting the vessels of sin, or about her play. The judge fell back asleep. He was later shaken awake by Rennert, and was shocked as Rennert explained Mira and Michelle had been killed, their ship sunk by a giant octopus right before entering the harbor.
Grieved, Gallerian ended up letting go all of his staff and became despondent. One night, he returned home and was enraged to find Ma waiting for him in Michelle's room. After Ma calmed him down, he listened as she reminded him of their conversation on the vessels of sin and what he had learned about them from "The Daughter of Evil". When Ma revealed she had one, having taken the Marlon Spoon from where it was in lockup as evidence, Gallerian argued with her about having stolen it until she handed the spoon off to him, claiming he needed it.
Although Gallerian tried to give it back, he relented and listened as Ma explained how the spoon was inhabited now by Adam Moonlit, not the Demon of Greed, and that Adam could possibly help Gallerian if he made a contract with him. Thinking of Michelle, Gallerian agreed to the contract. Given the Clockworker's Doll, Gallerian was told that it contained the soul of Michelle and that he could only speak with her if he kept the Marlon Spoon on his person at all times. Gallerian then agreed to help Ma collect the other vessels of deadly sin, so that he could make a wish to restore his daughter.
Path of Corruption
- "The most important thing for me is that you can pay me money. That's it."
Not long after obtaining the doll, Gallerian received a visit from Bruno, learning from him how the culprits of the Titanis sinking, a group in Elphegort named Zeus, had been caught. Gallerian thanked him, telling him that his wife could now rest in peace, and then rehired Bruno under the claim that Michelle would be anxious all alone, continuing on to claim that as she was "disabled" now they would have to postpone her attendance to Levin University. As the shocked Bruno tried to tell him Michelle was dead, Gallerian went to tell his "daughter" the good news about Bruno being hired on again.
Ignoring Bruno's confusion, Gallerian then carried on a cheerful conversation with "Michelle" using the Marlon Spoon. Later on, he presided over the trial of the arrested members of Zeus; unbeknownst to him Bruno had one of them, Gallerian's illegitimate daughter Nemesis Sudou, spared jailtime and taken in. To protect his reputation, Gallerian had handled Ma's theft of the spoon by paying bribes to officials in the bureau, as well as having documents forged to claim the spoon was always his, this dubbed the Spoon Corruption Case.
Around that time, the Dark Star Bureau was privatized and lost government funding. With Gusuma Yarera also refusing to give Gallerian more money for his quest, the judge decided to begin accepting bribes to decide his rulings in order to amass his funds. Seventeen years since Loki's trial, his brother Bindi Freezis was charged with masterminding the sinking of the Titanis with a group named Zeus; agreeing to cooperate with the Freezises in exchange for bribe money, Gallerian found him innocent.
Bindi later met with him in his office and Gallerian brushed off his thanks; as Bindi asked him for another favor, to have the members of Zeus disposed of in prison, Gallerian cheerfully agreed. He then arranged for Jorm to escape and kill them all, Jorm being brought to Lunaca Labora afterwards. With Gusuma enraged over Bindi's exoneration, Gallerian was forced to strengthen his security to protect himself from his hitmen. Talking with Ma at his mansion later, Gallerian brushed off her concern at making an enemy of Gusuma, explaining how it couldn't be helped.
He discussed his current situation with her for a time, until Ma brought up that another vessel of sin was in the possession of the soldier Nyoze Octo. Although Gallerian suggested that all the vessels might be as easy to locate, Ma warned him off of this with the claim that it would become more difficult with each vessel he collected, although musing that making a contract with Adam or Eve Moonlit would negate this. After their discussion, Gallerian went with Ma to visit the Octo family in Samadin. Entering the mansion, he immediately discovered that the vessel in their possession was the Venom Sword.
When he tried to reach it, however, he was prevented by Nyoze, who claimed that it was a family heirloom and that anyone who wasn't an Octo risked being enchanted by it. Despite his best efforts, Gallerian was unable to persuade Nyoze to hand over the sword and the soldier forced him to leave. While driving home, Gallerian spoke with Ma and learned how Nyoze's stubbornness was likely due to the sword and the demon in it having already enchanted him without his knowledge. Discussing it a little longer, Gallerian determined it would be difficult to obtain the sword legally.
The Octo Case
Bindi later visited Gallerian in his office to ask him another favor: his friend Jason Jack had been accused of the murder of a prostitute he hired, Medea Col, and Bindi insisted he was innocent. With more money being mentioned, Gallerian promised to talk to Jason; after Bindi left, Gallerian looked over the case's files and conceived of framing Nyoze for the murder to obtain the Venom Sword. When Bruno entered the office, Gallerian requested a favor of him using PN, having them forge evidence implicating Nyoze. After Nyoze was arrested and convicted for the crime, Gallerian had the Venom Sword covertly transferred to his home's treasury.
Afterward, he refused to see Nyoze's brother Gammon as he repeatedly attempted to arrange a meeting with him. Several days since Nyoze's trial, Gallerian found Gammon having come to visit him at his home; as Gammon persisted in speaking with him, Gallerian tried fruitlessly to shut him out. Gallerian then rebuked the man's pleas that Nyoze couldn't be a murderer, citing his own authority and the supposed evidence already linking his brother to the crime. He further denied Gammon the opportunity to reclaim the Venom Sword as it was evidence in the case; threatening to accuse him of trespassing, Gallerian sent Gammon off unsatisfied.
Afterward, Gallerian headed straight to Michelle's room and saw Ma there with her. Vexed that she came without permission, Gallerian quickly became fed up with Ma as they talked and insisted she leave. Ma agreed to do so after she received the Venom Sword, and Gallerian retrieved it from his treasury and presented it to her. Once the she confirmed it was authentic, Ma and Gallerian talked again about their objective to collect the vessels, until Gallerian cautioned her on how his position would be compromised if him removing confiscated evidence was discovered.
They both discussed the need to have a place away from the public eye to store the vessels. Not long after, Ma left and Gallerian talked with his "daughter", again promising how he would gather the rest of her "friends" in the vessels of sin. Later, Nyoze escaped from prison and an investigation was launched to look for him.
That same year, Gallerian discovered that the Graveyard restaurant was in possession of the Glass of Conchita and one of the Four Mirrors of Lucifenia, and as well that it was operating without a license. He went to the restaurant and ordered a meal; as each course arrived, the waitress serving him told him the story of Banica Conchita. By the end, Gallerian revealed himself to her and his true reasons for coming; with the cook and owner having already fled, he had his team arrest the waitress and confiscated the wine glass and mirror in the restaurant.
At the waitress' subsequent trial, he sentenced her to six months of penal servitude for all of the violations carried out by the restaurant, ignoring the furious girl when she, despite everything, demanded that he still pay his bill. After court was adjourned, Gallerian took the glass and mirror from the evidence vaults and stored them at home. Receiving a call from Ma, he learned she'd be delayed in picking up the new vessels due to the blizzard outside. Alone with Bruno, Gallerian discussed the risks of keeping the vessels at his home until they were interrupted by the house being broken into by undead soldiers.
After scuffling with the monsters for a time, Gallerian was startled by a much larger one that broke in, the Graveyard cook Eater Sabella, who demanded the release of his "master". At Gallerian's confusion, he almost attacked until Lich, the Graveyard's manager, stopped him. Lich clarified that he and Eater had come to request the return of the Glass of Conchita and the release of the restaurant's waiter. Gallerian chided him for their rude arrival, and the two ended up debating the ethics of Gallerian's method of collecting the vessels, before Lich tried to take back the glass in spite of Gallerian's protests.
Gallerian then watched as Lich was sucked into the glass, only to be spat back out and to announce that, by his master's whim, he, Eater, and all of the undead were now servants of Gallerian. Bewildered, Gallerian listened to Lich say that this was on the condition that he not let Ma near the glass and that he help them look for the Grave Yard, threatening to have Eater kill him if he refused. The enraged Gallerian pointed out how the undead soldiers had been fighting the USE army, only for Lich to claim that those undead soldiers were unrelated to them. Nonetheless, Gallerian continued to be uneasy, prompting Lich to offer to send the rest of the undead soldiers back to their graves.
After questioning him further on their true natures, and after briefly discussing it with Bruno, Gallerian decided to accept Lich and Eater into PN with the promise they wouldn't reveal what they were to anyone. They then agreed to let Waiter serve the rest of her sentence in prison, Gallerian surprised by the coldness of the decision. Lich was then inducted into PN as No. 6, and Eater as No. 7. When Ma arrived, Gallerian explained what had occurred, finding that Ma had met Lich and Eater once long ago.
- "It ached my heart a bit, but I let the gavel hit cleanly for money."
- ―Gallerian mocking Scherzer[src]
On one occasion, Gallerian presided over a case regarding a celebrity assaulting a woman; given a bribe by the defendant, Scherzer he ruled him innocent under the pretense that the available evidence was merely circumstantial. He later returned home and heard the radio report on his ruling, in addition to noting Scherzer's popularity with women. That night, Gallerian was visited by Scherzer in his study, and the two discussed the matters of his exoneration, Gallerian brushing it off as merely a matter of money. After warning Scherzer to be more careful around women, he watched him depart.
The judge was visited by Ma some time later, again while he was working in his study, and informed of rumors surrounding Scherzer and the disappearances of several women. Cursing Scherzer's apparent indiscretion, which would damage his reputation as judge, Gallerian stood and headed out. Making contact with a whistleblower who had leaked the rumors of Scherzer's activity, Scherzer's financial officer Bogaerts, Gallerian heard his testimony that Scherzer was kidnapping several woman and imprisoning them in an attempt to mimic the Venomania Event.
That night, Scherzer met with Gallerian in his study and petitioned him to be his savior again. Gallerian conceded to the offer if he was paid ten times the amount of the previous bribe; once Scherzer reluctantly agreed, Gallerian inquired why he was kidnapping women when he was already so wealthy. As Scherzer explain his own sadistic urges towards women and desire for more money, Gallerian remarked on his sleaziness, although conceding when Scherzer compared it to his own corruption for money.
The next day, Gallerian presided over Scherzer's trial. Having been promised Scherzer's entire fortune by Bogaerts beforehand if he found Scherzer guilty, since Scherzer had kidnapped Bogaerts' niece, Gallerian declared him guilty of all charges and watched as he was dragged out of the court. Later, Gallerian visited Scherzer in prison to explain his reasons for the guilty verdict. The judge explained it wasn't due to a personal vendetta, revealing the deal that he had made with Bogaerts beforehand. After adding that he and his subordinates would be executed the next day to protect Bogaerts, Gallerian left the screaming Scherzer to his fate. He then returned home to his supposed daughter.
As time passed, Gallerian obtained several friends with connections over the course of his corruption. Obtaining many enemies as well, Gallerian used Lich, Eater, and Jorm in PN to take care of those who opposed him. When, in EC 981, Bruno inducted Nemesis Sudou into PN as another assassin, Gallerian remained ignorant of any details about the girl save for that she had remarkable skill and that her codename was "No.8". During this time, he obtained another of the Four Mirrors of Lucifenia and went to an auction in Maistia with Ma to obtain the last two.
With the breakout of war in EC 982, Gallerian purchased the site of an abandoned home in the Millennium Tree Forest as a new place to store the vessels of sin, buying a permit from the Sisters of Clarith to do so. After having the abandoned home torn down, two skeletal corpses were found inside and the judge established a graveyard on the grounds as well. He then had Ma assist in building a movie theater on the spot, using technology from Magic Kingdom Levianta; having a clock tower included in the construction, the judge named it "Heartbeat Clocktower" after the one present at Castle Hedgehog.
About a month from the building's completion, Gallerian and Ma stood before the theater, which Ma decided to call Evil's Theater, discussing how it would keep his collection safe. They also discussed bringing Lich into the theater so that he could guard the glass from Ma, in order for Gallerian to keep his promise. Gallerian also bemoaned having Michelle so far away, with Ma pointing out it would be good for her.
In December of that year, Gallerian fell asleep at his office in the bureau while looking over the Fifth Pierrot case files. While asleep, he dreamed he was in the Hellish Yard and approached the Master of the Hellish Yard as she judged a crowd of souls, finding her familiar. Determining his identity as the corrupt USE Dark Star Bureau's director, possessed by Greed, the Master declared that although it would be appropriate to send him to hell, she would allow him into heaven if he relinquished the entirety of his fortune to her. But, already knowing his response, he gave her his refusal.
Immediately afterward, the judge awoke in his empty office, closing the still open Fifth Pierrot files on his desk in front of him. Bruno soon after entered to announce that Evil's Theater's construction had been completed, with Michelle and all of the vessels of sin safely moved there. Pleased by the news, Gallerian listened as Bruno further explained that they had found the fugitive Nyoze hiding with his lover in Rolled. Gallerian promptly ordered his death, agreeing with Bruno's suggestion to have No.8 handle the mission.
After talking with Bruno about where he should have dinner with Ma later, with Bruno suggesting a restaurant at Calgaround's Merrigod Plateau, Gallerian became suspicious if there was something more that Bruno wasn't telling him. When Bruno denied it, he allowed the man to excuse himself and leave the room. Later, with all of the vessels safely transferred, Gallerian created a documentary showcasing all of his collectibles and had it screen as a film in Evil's Theater.
Leviantan Civil War
- "I will never hand over my fortune to the likes of you!"
In EC 983, Tony Ausdin was arrested for his war crimes against the village of Zenosai and the murder of Shiro Netsuma. Reading of the event in the newspaper, Gallerian met with Bruno in his office and discussed the coverage of the event, before Gallerian left to speak with Tony before his trial. Meeting with Tony while he was imprisoned, Gallerian spoke with him about his crimes and listened to Tony's claims that Zenosai had been allied with the enemy and how he had been under the pressures of war. When asking about Shiro, he similarly heard Tony's claim that her death was an accident.
Tony pleaded with Gallerian to save him during his trial, offering him a bribe. Although shocked Tony wasn't appealing to him as a friend, Gallerian agreed to do it for the money, requesting a relatively small bribe before and after the trial. Soon after, Gallerian and Tony bid each other farewell and, during the subsequent trial, Gallerian declared him innocent to the outrage of the courtroom. After returning to his office, Gallerian was met by Bruno, Hel, and Feng, Hel declaring she was quitting the Dark Star Bureau because of his corruption and Shiro's death.
While Gallerian protested with her, Bruno interjected how the opposing Tasan Party had learned of Tony's bribe; when Gallerian, realizing Hel was responsible, tried to have Feng arrest her, Feng announced his own intention to quit. After Feng convinced him to let them go, Gallerian spoke alone with Bruno and learned that he, at least, intended to stay loyal to him in spite of everything. When the Tasan Party tried to indict Gallerian for receiving Tony's bribe, Bindi tied the World Police up from acting.
The Tasan Party leaked evidence of Gallerian's corruption to the press, and the public unrest over it escalated into a full civil war, with the fighting beginning in Alicegrad that April. As Bindi became targeted by the guerrillas and his usefulness waned, Gallerian arranged for Postman to deliver him to Lunaca Labora so that Gusuma could finally have his revenge on Bindi for the sinking of the Titanis. When Bindi arrived at his office and asked to borrow Postman to escape Alicegard, Gallerian summoned Postman and later sent Bindi off after Postman arrived.
Later, when the Dark Star Bureau courthouse was captured, Gallerian escaped to his mansion and found that even Eater had fled. With his mansion becoming surrounded soon after his arrival, Gallerian tried to distract himself from his impending arrest and ended up reading some of Ma's screenplays while he waited. After a while, Gallerian became confused about how no one had come in yet, and then was startled to see a man identical to himself in the mansion. As he confronted him, Gallerian realized that the man was Adam Moonlit and mused with him on how he'd made the contract with him and come all this way hoping to get Michelle's body back.
As Adam mocked him, and then claimed that Eve was the true identity of the soul within the doll, Gallerian objected to this and got into an argument with him. As a result, despite Gallerian's protests, Adam summoned the doll from Evil's Theater so that she could tell them herself. With the doll in the house, Gallerian called to her and then, at her request, wheeled her to the window.
After he'd explained the citizen army gathered outside, Gallerian witnessed the doll set the soldiers alight with blue fire to protect him, and then watched Adam subsequently become enraged to realize that this power meant she was not Eve. Just before Adam left, he claimed to Gallerian that there was something Bruno and Ma had both hidden from him. With Adam gone, Gallerian took "Michelle" back into the study and comforted her, despite not being able to hear her responses.
He then noticed that the bat that always flew around him, Sickle, was leaving and stopped it; speaking to him directly, Gallerian questioned Sickle on why he had always flown around him, before talking about how he knew that he was really a god. He then asked Sickle what it was Bruno and Ma hid from him, pleading to know when Sickle initially refused. After Sickle told him, the shocked Gallerian let go of the bat and watched him fly out of the mansion.
Afterwards, Gallerian sat down and read Ma's screenplay on Kayo Sudou and the Enbizaka Murderer Scandal, learning about his great-great-grandmother's era. After he finished, and hearing someone approach the study, Gallerian discarded the book and selected the last available screenplay, a work about his life called "Judgment of Corruption".
Gallerian then continued comforting the Doll until a green haired woman, who unbeknownst to him was Nemesis Sudou, came to kill him. Speaking with her, Gallerian was shocked to learn she was in fact No. 8 of PN, had already killed Tony, and had come to punish him for his corruption. When questioned on why he made her an assassin for PN, Gallerian denied his personal involvement in the recruitment.
Bantering with the woman, Gallerian refused a choice between being shot or burning in the fire. Nemesis then offered for him to be spared in exchange for his fortune, and Gallerian hesitated for a while before refusing. Put at gunpoint once again, Gallerian continued to comfort the doll as he urged his assassin to get on with it. As Nemesis shot him, Gallerian thanked her, using her real name, before he died.
Following his death, Gallerian ended up in the Hellish Yard and was sent to hell. At some point during his stay, he found a route to the Grave Yard and, using a Black Box, read the memories of the Moon Goddess Luna Hazuki, therefore learning everything about Evil's Theater and its inhabitants since his death, as well as learning about the phenomenon of irregulars. In EC 999, he and the other souls returned to the Third Period as the ground world merged with the Hellish Yard.
Freed from hell, Gallerian reunited with his daughter Michelle. He soon after met with Gammon and Irina Clockworker, the being who once inhabited the doll. The four of them decided to collaborate to save the world by invoking the Court ending, planning to do so by having Irina's twin children, Adam and Eve, enact a Re_birthday while Irina's soul possessed the reconstructed Evil's Theater. As part of their plan, they also began seeking Ma, hoping to make her a pure being by merging the souls of the seven most compatible Demon of Sin contractors, including Michelle and Gallerian.
Returning to Levianta, the judge recreated an illusion of the USE Dark Star Bureau courthouse, its audience, and its staff, continuing to preside over trials of the resident souls. Doing so, he searched for the other sin contractors and Ma under the pretense of looking for the vessels of sin. Soon after, he was dragged back into the underworld by the Master of the Hellish Yard.
The End of Capriccio
In the underworld, Gallerian waited along with Kayo and Sateriasis until the Master of the Hellish Yard arrived with Riliane, whom Gallerian was shocked to learn was previously Postman. After fruitlessly questioning Riliane on Ma's whereabouts, Gallerian turned his attention to the Master of the Hellish Yard as she prepared to leave, questioning her on why she was gathering up the contractors.
After surmising that she was trying to protect them, Gallerian suddenly revealed his collaboration with Gammon by letting the Sleep Princess, Michelle, up to the group. With Michelle, who used her powers as a contractor of Eve, Gallerian attacked the other contractors and the Master of the Hellish Yard. After Michelle became overwhelmed from the effort of forming Gift, however, Gallerian fled back to Evil's Theater with his daughter, blowing out the other contractors to Asmodean in the process.
Back in Evil's Theater, Gallerian took up residence in the Director's room with Gammon. When Riliane, Kayo and Sateriasis traveled to Evil's Theater to confront Michelle, Gallerian stood by while Gammon began explaining their situation. Once Gammon left to address more newcomers, Gallerian took over his explanation, telling them everything he had previously learned and telling the incredulous other contractors everything about their plans to save the world.
When he began to talk about their other plan to make Ma a pure being, Gallerian was interrupted by Banica and her servants, who had also come to confront them. Shortly after, Ma's will suddenly resurfaced from within Riliane and Gallerian was absorbed into her along with the rest of the contractors. Shortly before Ma's defeat, Gallerian was separated from the fusion.
Following Riliane and Allen's creation of the Fourth Period, Gallerian and his daughter stayed behind, gathering with the other souls at the Lucifenian Royal Palace. He and Michelle were later left by Arth to deal with the Tasan Party soldiers who were still causing trouble.
- "Gallerian was a friend of mine. He too was possessed by a Deadly Sin. I, for one, thought to try and use that. As I expected, he collected many of the vessels."
After his death, Gallerian's vast inheritance went missing, with his collection of vessels of sin being inherited by Ma and stored in Evil's Theater. The small theater became forgotten by the masses for the most part. Rumors spread afterward that Gallerian's inheritance was inside the theater, prompting numerous treasure hunters to attempt finding it. The awakened Clockworker's Doll's burns were later healed by Gear and she succeeded her "father" as the Master of the Court, looking to Gallerian for guidance as she continued his plan to gather all the vessels of sin and create a utopia for them both.
Gallerian's work in the Dark Star Bureau was spoken about with disdain by later generations and his obsession with finding the vessels of sin earned him the name of the Collector. A film concerning Gallerian's corruption of the bureau was created by Ma over a decade later and was subsequently reviewed by the Master of the Court. While organizing the "motions", Gammon Octo noted the judge's corrupt temperament and how it was seemingly inherited by the Judicial Doll instead of Gear; the former soldier likewise pointed out while it appeared that Ma was the one who incited Gallerian, it also didn't feel like something she would do.
Personality and Traits
- "You're right. I'll save anyone who pays me money. Anyone."
- ―Gallerian to Scherzer[src]
Gallerian was a cold, pragmatic, but contradictory man. Growing up poor despite his family's status, Gallerian was instilled even as a child with the notion that being rich was essential to one's success. As such, he was notably stingy and disliked frivolous spending. Over time, this stinginess developed into outright greed that prioritized making money and accumulating power even at the expense of other people. Gallerian's desire for "collecting" became so pronounced that it supplied, on its own, the "greed" to consider him a contractor of the absent Demon of Greed. He was accordingly willing to exonerate or convict anyone for the right compensation, regardless of the scale of their crimes.
His greed, however, was with the understanding that money was a means to an end. Gallerian's struggles growing up instilled in him a boundless drive to succeed that he poured first into his career and then into his relationship with Michelle. His determination to save his daughter reflected the tireless and dedicated approach Gallerian took to all of his goals, where he was willing to do anything to achieve them regardless of how good or evil his actions might have appeared to others. He fittingly conducted himself in a stoic and businesslike manner, save for rare occasions.
Originally, Gallerian's behavior was tempered by a set of morals and a dislike of injustice, and he was similarly loyal to his friends even in the worst circumstances. The events of his youth, however, and his own drive to save Michelle, led him to discard his scruples with increasing indifference. As he acted unrepentant about his various misdeeds to the last, it became unclear if his previous morals were genuine or a superficial result of his upbringing. Similarly, although he cared for his relationships, Gallerian was not above betraying his other "business partners" and was mostly loyal to his own ultimate ends. By the world's end, Gallerian sought to revive the world, although still maintaining his means-to-an-end mentality as well as his sadistic and cruel demeanor. As part of his mission in collecting them, Gallerian's interest in the vessels of sin also extended to the incidents in history that they caused.
Skills and Abilities
- "I pass judgment."
- ―Chief Justice Gallerian[src]
A learned judge, Gallerian was well-versed in law and had risen to become a powerful magistrate in the USE at a young age as a result. Because of his power and influence as the Supreme Court Director, he could warrant anyone's arrest under the pretense of investigating a crime and confiscate evidence as he saw fit. His power even extended to forging evidence.
As part of his position, Gallerian could act as the presiding judge of any trial within the Dark Star Buraeu's jurisdiction and had the sole power to save or condemn the defendant and select their sentence based on the evidence provided. After becoming the master of PN, Gallerian used the espionage force as his personal secret police, eliminating any threats covertly while expanding his corrupt power.
As a contractor to Adam Moonlit, Gallerian was able to hear the voice of the Clockworker's Doll. He also appeared unusually young for his age, as characteristic of his family. After suffering from frostbite, Gallerian's right pinkie finger was also paralyzed.
Ma: Gallerian's friend and later mistress. Seeing Ma as a very beautiful and mysterious woman who aided him when he needed it, Gallerian developed a close confidential relationship with her. Later on, despite initial wariness of her resemblance to his mother, he entered an affair with the playwright for a short time. Despite this, Gallerian was annoyed by her lackadaisical, cryptic nature as well as her jabs at his family, although ultimately grateful for her help.
Bruno Zero: Gallerian's butler and confidante. Initially grateful to Bruno for helping to save him from Loki, Gallerian grew to rely on him heavily over the course of the man's service to him. This extended to trusting him with handling all of his affairs as a judge and in PN, although Gallerian acknowledged that Bruno had his own agendas that he kept secret from him. In the end, Gallerian came to understand that Bruno was the only loyal ally he had left.
Michelle Marlon: Gallerian's real daughter. Gallerian had a loving relationship with her and was very considerate of her well-being, turning down Ma's offer of looking for the Sin fragments initially due to his concern for her. After her death, Gallerian continued to care for "her" while believing her to be inside of the Clockworker's Doll.
Mira Marlon: Gallerian's wife. Gallerian initially believed himself in love with Mira during their affair, and was genuinely friends with her during their youth. Despite this, he quickly came to despise her at times irresponsible behavior and their marriage suffered under their constant friction. Over time, Gallerian even questioned if he hadn't just seen her as a way to get revenge on Loki, her being Loki's former girlfriend.
Master of the Court: Gallerian's perceived daughter. Gallerian cared about "Michelle" very deeply, dedicating himself to curing her condition and enjoying their conversations together. He was almost subserviently devoted to her, and although trying to keep her safe from harm he also was comforted by her presence near his death. Even after learning she was not his daughter, Gallerian continued to treat the doll kindly and collaborated with the spirit inside her at the world's end.
Nemesis Sudou: Gallerian's employee, illegitimate daughter and half-sister. Not knowing of her existence as his daughter or his sister, Gallerian only saw Nemesis as a suitably skilled assassin in PN; later on, he was similarly contemptuous of her threats and defiant to her attempts to make him seek repentance for what he had done.
Elluka Clockworker: Gallerian's mother. Although seemingly never meeting his mother in person, Elluka's infamy as a "witch" followed him throughout his childhood. The young judge was inspired by her fate to reform the justice system in the Dark Star Bureau. Later, when meeting Ma, he initially suspected the two were the same before discarding the idea.
