"If only you hadn't changed."
―Gumina Glassred[src]

The Portrait Glassred Drew is a song released by Akuno-P on January 31, 2015. It concerns Gumina Glassred following the Venomania Event, reflecting on her past as she draws the face of Duke Sateriasis Venomania.

Plot[]

Sometime after the Venomania Event, Gumina Glassred paints the face of a man she can't see again on her blank canvas. She ruminates on how their story could have ended differently if he had stayed as he was, but acknowledges that the person in her picture is already gone. She continues to paint the man's face until his portraits fills her room, admitting that she had wanted the true him, even if they both didn't realize it.

Gumina recalls how the man had burnt his past portrait, and how he had changed after she foolishly made fun of him. She notes how she had believed it would be okay regardless, as long as he was happy; she says that while change isn't bad, what he really needed was to accept his unchanged self too. As she paints, Gumina remarks that he still lives through her painting and that she had already known what he was trying to say in the end. Acknowledging that she really had liked him, Gumina fills the room with memories of her lost friend, shedding a tear at the fact neither of them realized they wanted to love the real him. At the end of the PV, the purple rose she wore is shown left on a new, blank canvas.

Lyrics[]

If only you hadn’t changed

Running my brush onto the canvas
I painted a picture of him
All along I can’t meet with
This face in the corner of my memory anymore

Since when was it that
It had completely changed?
If you had been the way you were
Maybe this would have had a different conclusion
That’s too late by now, huh?
–The you in the picture isn’t around anymore

It’s not that I liked your face
And yet this whole time I’ve continued painting
Before I knew it, this room was filled with your likeness

What I sought wasn’t your face
But the real you as you were
But hey, neither you nor I
Was able to realize that

That burnt portrait
You said “I hate this face”
What was truly disgusting
Wasn’t your face, surely…

With a foolish idea
I made fun of you
The next time I met you
You had become a different person
Yes, you were just like someone else
–The you in the picture isn’t around anymore

Even if you were different from
What I remembered, if you were happy
I had thought perhaps it was okay, even so

It’s not that changing is bad
But what you really needed
Was to accept yourself without changing, too
But you couldn’t realize that

You continue to live
In these pictures I painted
Even if it’s not the appearance
You had wished for
Yes, back then,
Those words you were trying to say in the end
Somehow I know what they were
I had known from long ago

Perhaps I did like you
So this whole time I’ve continued painting
Before I knew it, this room was filled with memories of you

What I sought wasn’t your face
But the real you as you were
But hey, neither you nor I
Was able to realize that

Trivia[]

Conceptualization and Origin[]

  • The song's title is derived from its central character, Gumina Glassred, and the portraits she makes of Cherubim.
  • While commenting on the song, mothy cited that, while he didn't understand the psychology of a woman, being a man, he tried hard to do so, wanting to tell the story from the perspective of a "normal person".[1]
