New evillious map

Bolganio[1] was a continent in the Third Period. Many events involving the vessels of sin took place in its western region, Evillious, and the continent was populated by numerous kinds of humans of varying ethnicities and cultures throughout its history.

History

Early History

After arriving at the new area, the sun god and his fellow deities created the Bolganio continent and all the people in it, constructing different races to fill the different lands, and left the resulting civilizations to their own devices.[2] While the Eastern region developed into a collection of kingdoms,[3] the Evillious region formed several large sovereign powers, the most prominent being the Magic Kingdom Levianta.

Founding the Levin faith, the kingdom spread the religion across the area, including the neighboring Heldogort.[4] Around five centuries later, the kingdom established the Evillious Calendar system following the birth of Hänsel and Gretel as part of Project 'Ma'.[5] Later on, in EC 013, the forbidden ark Sin was activated and resulted in the Levianta Catastrophe, bringing the Magic Kingdom to ruin.[6]

Medieval Era

Following the Magic Kingdom's destruction in EC 013, the Beelzenian Empire grew to replace it, conquering former Leviantan territory and encompassing nearly two-thirds of Evillious.[7] Struggling to maintain its vast territory, Beelzenia's Asmodean region eventually declared independence in EC 212.[8] Following a war with Asmodean during much of the 4th century EC, the Empire's Lucifenia territory also declared independence in EC 399 and led to the empire's inevitable decline.[9]

During the early EC 470s, the Kingdom of Lucifenia adopted a policy of expansionism and warred against both Asmodean and Beelzenia, securing itself as the new dominant power in Evillious.[10] Following Lucifenia's quick decline and subsequent occupation by the Kingdom of Marlon, the island nation briefly maintained dominance before reinstating the fallen kingdom's government and political sovereignty in EC 510.[11]

In EC 592, the Freesis Foundation discovered the Maistia continent and colonized the area for trade.[12] International concern later rose over the epidemic plaguing Toragay, Elphegort in fall of EC 609.[13] With the discovery of a cure later that year, tensions declined soon after.[14] Maistia later declared independence from the Evillious nations in EC 776.[15]

Modern Era

In an effort of solidarity, the independent nations of Levianta, Lucifenia, Marlon, and Elphegort signed the Aishikeru Treaty in EC 878, joining together as the Union State of Evillious.[16] The new conglomerate nation enjoyed a century of peace, but its complacency lead to corruption sprouting into its judiciary system, leading to the Leviantan Civil War.[17]

In EC 993,[18] Elphegort invaded Lucifenia and was expelled from the USE. Backed by Beelzenia and Jakoku, the nation entered a war with the USE's remaining Marlon and Levianta. After the neutral United States of Maistia announced their support for the USE, Jakoku declared war on the nation and Bolganio's war spread across the entire globe.[19]

In EC 998, Elphegort set up countless Punishment weapons across the Evillious region. After accidentally destroying Jakoku with the weapon, the Punishments set up on Evillious were activated and eradicated the region, decimating the entire continent.[20] Following the end of the Third Period, the destruction site merged with the Hellish Yard along with the rest of the ground world.[21]

Regions

Evillious

The Evillious region encompassed the entire western half of the continent, covering a variety of different landscapes including its western, more temperate grasslands and its eastern, more arid drylands.[22] Following the initial success of the second Project 'Ma', the region grew to adopt the Evillious Calendar as its point of reference and continued to use it during the 10th century EC.[23]

After the Levianta Catastrophe, it lost much of its magical and technological advancements made during the reign of the Magic Kingdom and magic slowly degraded into myth by the early EC 500s. Levin was the primary faith of the area's populace.[24] For the most part, Evillious was disconnected from the eastern region, showing no signs of constant contact or trade between the two regions[25] outside of the nearby cities along the border.[26]

Eastern

The Eastern region encompassed the areas east of the Evillious region and is assumed to take up much of continent's eastern half. It was known to have been comprised of several different kingdoms during the 6th century EC and was largely undocumented and unexplored to residents of Evillious.[27] Its only known named area was Jakoku.[28]

Trivia

Conceptualization and Origin

  • Bolganio's name is possibly derived from the surname Bolganio or Bolgiano; in numerology, the names are associated with the theme of duality, the freedom to achieve great heights and equally great depths.
  • Its western region, Evillious, literally means "having the qualities of evil"; similarly, it shares its name with the Evillious Chronicles that it is set in.
  • A majority of the Evillious region's nations, geography, and culture are inspired by Western Europe and its medieval history, including its perspective on the "eastern kingdoms" in Asia.

Curiosities

  • Many of the known states in Evillious derive their name from one of the Seven Princes of Hell and their connection to the Seven Deadly Sins.
  • In creating the people of Elphegort, Sickle modeled them after Held's human form in the Second Period, giving them green hair similar to his.[29]
