The Arklow Family[note 1] was an American family living in the Second Period. Rising to success through the scientist Lich Arklow and his younger brother Michael, the two last members of the family were able to escape on the ship Climb One to rebuild humanity in the Third Period where one of them ended up ascending into a God.
History[]
Early History[]
Living in America in Second Period, the Arklow family started out as a humble family of four, a father, mother and two sons, Lich and Michael.[1] As the sons reached adulthood Lich became a renowned scientist working under Behemo Barisol, becoming an expert on superhuman races, while Michael went to Russia becoming the assistant of the psychiatrist Levia Barisol.[2] As Hereditary Evil Raiser Syndrome began to ravage the world, the parents were killed in a terrorist attack. Lich and Michaela were able to secure places aboard the Climb One due to their connections to the Barisol twins and escape the world's destruction. However during the trip, Lich had unknowlingly brought along Seth Twiright, who infected him with Malice and made him murder the other passangers[3], later perishing when the ship crashed.[4]
Original Sin[]
Due to Held Yggdra preserving the brothers' Spirit Data they were able to become Forest spirits in Third Period, Lich being allowed to keep his memories of his past life, while Michael forgot his past life and became Michaela. Incarnating in BT 528 the two began to live in bird forms, forbidden from ever leaving the Millennium Tree Forest they now resided in. In EC 001, Michaela encountered the witch Eve Moonlit and fell in love with her. This made her reveal the location of the children of Meta Salmhofer, Hänsel and Gretel.[5] Due to this the original sin was commited, which would wind up becoming the root of evil within Third Period.
Years later, in EC 015, Lich was summoned by Seth Twiright along with his commrades and was offered the chance to become remade into a demon of sin, the demon of sloth, but decided to pass on the chance.[6] When Hänsel and Gretel performed the Re birthday anyway, Eve took the place of the demon of Sloth instead, allowing her to continue to spread chaos across the world.[7]
Seven Sins[]
During the EC 470s, Lich revived the deceased Arth Lucifen d'Autriche as a mud doll, causing Held to banish him from the forest. Because of this prank, the Lucifenian Royal Family survived and would begin the Reign of Evil.[8] During this time in the EC 500s Michaela incarnated once more in human form with Gumillia in order to help Elluka Clockworker locate the Vessels of Sin.[9] During the mission Michaela's presense indirectly caused the Lucifenia-Elphegort War to break out, after Kyle Marlon fell in love with her. As a result Held was burned down when Lucifenian soldiers set fire to the Millenium Tree Forest, Michaela being assainated later on and transforming into a sapling. Planted in her master's stead, Michaela became the new Millenium Tree, officially ascending into godhood.[10]
In the EC 900s Lich incarnated as a death god, becoming the servant of Banica Conchita. Joining the organization PN under Gallerian Marlon in the EC 980s, Lich moved into Evil's Theater with his master, tasked with safeguarding the Vessels of Sin Marlon had collected up until that point.[11] While still living in the forest together again, the siblings did not interract, and Michaela merely observed her brother's crimes. In EC 999 both of the siblings' physical forms were detroyed by Punishment.[12]
World's End[]
After the destruction of the Third Period Michaela aided the souls in moving forward towards the new world, with Lich joining his sister to sing the Clockwork Lullaby to stop Ma.[13] After that Michaela chose to follow the Heavenly Ending and moved on to the next world[14], while Lich opted to take the Graveyard Ending, following his new master to the Parallel Worlds.[15]

Trivia[]
Conceptualization and Origin[]
- The family name contains the characters for the word "crow", クロウ (kurou); Lich's animal form as a spirit, the black rollam bird, is consistently depicted as a crow.
- Arklow is also the name of a town in Ireland, which curiously features a crow on its Coat of Arms.
