I still think it's talking about her life as Arte. In Ending Boy Hänsel, the similar part describes Hänsel's three lives. I see this version as a parallel to that, describing Gretel's three lives. First four lines are the first one, the second four are the second one and the third four are the third one. It's not 100% similar (in Gretel's version the first two lines of the first part are not about her first life, and the third one is longer than four lines) but the parallel is there.
If I recall correctly, the Waltz guidebook is where we get the info that Arte and Pollo lost their parents. Maybe someone could read through it to cross-reference? Here's the link to Redladydeath's scans.
I don't really see how what you're saying contradicts Octo's point. Of course it's a parallel to Hansel's song; why wouldn't it be? But we also can't say that it's a direct 1:1 parallel either, because Hansel's song is broken up differently too.
What Octo said made sense. If we assume the "killing parents" line is about Arte, then that means that Arte gets 4 lines compared to Gretel only getting 2. How it relates to the third segment in terms of lines is irrelevant because mothy put that one into a separate stanza all on its own. I think it is just meant to be a summation of the events of the first two lives.
Also Greek, if you could point to WHERE in Waltz it says this information, that would be more helpful than just pointing in its general direction (I don't mean to sound rude, it's just that I'd rather not comb over the entire book for something that may or may not even be in there).
My apologies. I'm pretty sure it's in the Story Digest part regarding EFEC, so pages 23-25.
Price has translated The Song That Resounds With Lu Li La, Lu Li La (Parade).
I think now's a good time to discuss what we're going to be doing with Reach for the Stars: The Letter She Kept Waiting For.
My position is that it should be considered canon (explicitly the Reach for the Stars version) and the info from it added onto pages (what little there is.)
Probably we'd treat the actual song page the same as we treated the Clockworker edition of Recollective Music Box vs the original. Although since the lyrics are changed so much, and it might be an issue of the remastered version is canon while the original was not, it might deserve its own page.
I think this is a reasonable step for us to take, since mothy made deliberate changes to tie the song closer to canon in the lyrics, vocals, and the image he used to represent it (even the title was chosen, as Misstress said, to make a nod to Re_birthday.)
Thoughts? Dissensions?
I agree with Octofan that it is now canon, the remastered version one, though exactly how it'd fit I am not very sure, since mothy said he wanted to also start the song with a Re, and like the others have said, I too think it is like a counterpart or related song to Re_birthday.
On that I have two theories about it, that mothy somehow changed his mind and maybe it is indeed a song about Rilliane, or maybe it is in the same position as Re_birthday, as in it is explicitly canon, but right now in a weird place, as in not explicitly said where or who the song is about, like Re_birthday.
...How exactly is it ambiguous who and what the song is about?
The issue with Re_Birthday is that there's a bunch of characters it could apply to, and a lot of references that are made to it in various places that muddle the issue. Reach for the Stars is pretty clear. It's about Riliane, the painter is Kyle, and the person that died for her is Allen. There's really no other characters it could be referring to.
It's possible mothy wanted to make a shoutout to Re_birthday in the title, yeah, but that doesn't mean we have to pretend that the song is the same confusing mess just to make them similar. I don't think it requires any theorizing--mothy clearly just changed his mind on its canonicity and changed the lyrics to make it more specific to Evillious instead of "nun who was originally Riliane but is now a separate character", like Octo was saying.
I agree with treating Reach for the Stars as canon and putting the info from it on the pages. I'm also open to the idea of it having a separate page, since there are lyric changes and that's the only version of the song that's canon.
